Position Summary
The Perinatal Technician assists in nursing care and preparation of the obstetrical patient through performance of routine and delegated duties according to the standards and policies of the hospital and Perinatal Services Department. Performs scrub duties and related procedures. Provides non-clinical support through management of supplies activities. Also performs clerical and communication duties required on the unit. Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

- Adheres to AORN standards and guidelines as a surgical scrub technician.
- Assists physicians and Registered Nurses during delivery. Assists in all areas of surgical prep and assisting above in surgical procedures following all hospital policies and procedures.
- Supply and Equipment Management. Inventories, orders, stocks and maintains all supplies and equipment for LDRP. Checks and monitors status of equipment to insure working order. Cleans and stocks rooms
- Performs routine treatments and procedures within scope and as directed by RN. Collects routine specimens.
- Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Provides Unit Secretary Duties:
- Assists with registration of patients.
- Obtains admission consents and signatures.
- Notifies admitting and Emergency Department for face sheets.
- Facilitates scheduling of all procedures and testing.
- Enter/edit patient charges.
- Maintains medical records/patient charts accurately, neatly and currently. Ensures daily assembly of all discharged records.
- Reviews Birth Certificates and make certain complete
- Files
- Accurately documents all care provided by Perinatal Technician.
- Reports to oncoming Perinatal Technician to ensure continuity of care.
- Initiates obtaining addition resources in the event of multiple admissions.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and offers suggestions regarding improving hospital systems and patient care delivery.
- Maintains all confidentiality and HIPPA regulations.
- Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills and telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrates ability to multi-task effectively, prioritizing and managing time efficiently.
- Considers age-related factors when assisting with patient care.
- On Call required.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Certification/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Graduate from accredited Surgical Technology School
- Current BLS Certification (may obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Certified Surgical Technician Preferred
