What are we looking for?

A Lead Technician who’s a full-on firecracker.

Where are we located?

Santa Barbara, CA

What kind of job is this?

Fulltime

Who would you report to?

Steven and Chris, our owners. We’re a small, but mighty team of 8, so you’ll be interacting with all of our team almost daily.

Who are we?

Remember the cartoon The Jetsons, as a kid? Or, how about the movie, Iron Man? Both of these shows have a key commonality: they showcased really killer homes that were souped up with the kind of technology that would blow your mind if that technology actually existed in real life.

Well, what was only sci-fi in those shows is rapidly becoming real life today. Consumer technology and smart-home systems are evolving at a rapid pace, which means homes being built or renovated today and in the coming years are going to look more and more like those homes in the movies.

We started out over 35 years ago (yes, you read that number right!), from a simple love of technology and as technology has rapidly changed, so have we. While we still have that same passion for technology (and audio in particular), we specialize in far more than that. We pride ourselves in designing, installing, and servicing the most cutting edge technology for both homes and commercial businesses. From home theaters, distributed video systems, and professional networks, all the way to audiophile listening rooms, conference rooms, and smart home automation, we cover a lot of ground with the technology we consider ourselves experts in.

Just as technology is an undeniable passion of ours, our passion for our clients is our true bread and butter. We are full-on technology managers for our clients, providing them with unmatched service 24/7. Do you have a sincere passion for technology and knack for curating an amazing client experience? Apply to join our team today!

What would your job look like?

As a Lead Technician at HiFi Club, you’ll spend your time working in homes and businesses to install and integrate the latest in A/V and other automation technology. We need you to have previous experience in our industry and to be a quick study of our procedures.

Here’s how a typical week might look:

  • On Monday, you might find yourself assembling a home theater rack in our warehouse for later installation;
  • On Tuesday, you may be coordinating with an alarm company technician to integrate a residential alarm system with Control4;
  • On Wednesdays, we all fly to Vegas together and hit the casinos. (just kidding; we just wanted to make sure you’re still paying attention)
  • You may end your week on Friday doing a few onsite visits to engage in some troubleshooting for existing client systems that couldn’t be resolved remotely.

At a more granular level, your days will consist of the following:

  • Installation and maintenance of audio/visual, networking, security and automation equipment in residential, commercial, and retail environments.
  • Interpreting floor plans and system designs
  • Terminating head-end system components
  • Implementing installation interfaces between control systems and subsystems
  • Advanced troubleshooting of audio, visual, and automation equipment
  • Programming Control4 and Crestron Home OS systems
  • Scheduling, managing, and coordinating the available labor, materials, tools, equipment, and technical expertise for projects
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients
  • Performing regular site visits for ongoing projects
  • Providing regular progress reports to the rest of our team

If we’re lucky, your daily work will be planned and structured. However, priorities can shift at a moment’s notice. You must be comfortable with shifting focus and willing to be an active participant in juggling multiple demands.

When the client is ready to use their technology for the first time, you’ll train them and answer all their questions. You will always be expected to treat our clients and your colleagues with patience and friendliness no matter how big or small their issue. Client service is something we hold sacred at our company so it is of the utmost importance that you be willing and able to serve as a helping hand for our clients in their moment of need.

What should you bring to the table?

  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in low voltage, especially AV & custom technology integration
  • Comprehensive knowledge and passion for residential systems integration including audio/video, lighting, shades, climate control, CCTV, and networks
  • Experience installing and programming Control4 systems; we’re specifically looking for someone with a Control4 Installer and Programmer certification!
  • Bonus points if you also have experience with Crestron, Savant, and Lutron
  • Experience configuring and administering TCP/IP networks, to include Araknis and Ubiquiti
  • Willingness to work in our on-call rotation for one week per month
  • Our on-call each day is from 5pm-9pm and would include an additional pay allowance
  • Extensive experience in a client-facing role- we’re working in and out of clients’ homes, so client interaction is huge!
  • A degree is a nice bonus, but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry hand tools and materials around a job site
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record
  • A professional appearance at all times
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written
  • A genuine passion for the industry; technology is incredibly fast-moving, so a genuine passion for technology and industry is imperative to keeping up
  • A positive attitude, ability to excel under pressure, and a willingness to hold yourself accountable

What do we bring to the table?

  • Base salary: $70,000-80,000/annual, commensurate with experience
  • Health Benefits
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) with a company match
