We are looking for a selfdriven and highly motivated Tooling Engineer Lead with a strong background in mold design and various plastic forming technologies in Winchester KY. This position will oversee the development procurement and validation of molds. The goal is to leverage the best and most innovative technologies available for designing producing and maintaining molds.
This is an onsite position and relocation assistance is available on a casebycase basis subject to company approval.
Travel is a key component of this role and may be required weekly depending on business needs.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement tooling strategies to align with production goals.
- Oversee new tool construction projects from concept to completion.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure efficient tooling design and seamless implementation.
- Manage the tooling repair department ensuring timely and effective repairs.
- Design and develop tooling for largescale machinery ensuring compatibility with hightonnage presses and other advanced equipment.
- Work with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling for large complex machinery operations.
- Monitor tooling performance identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Design and develop new tooling fixtures and gages to support production needs.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all tooling and processes.
- Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and provide actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure tooling quality and reliability.
- Research and implement technologies to enhance mold repair maintenance and construction for improved performance.
- Work with engineering to ensure new and existing product and tool designs are moldable offering design improvements or alternative processes when necessary.
- Actively seek continuous improvement opportunities by researching new technologies materials and methods to enhance products molds and manufacturing processes.
- Partner with vendors to explore alternative methods materials and equipment to improve molds and mold maintenance.
- Assist manufacturing teams with process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications : 15 or more years of experience in the injection molding industry, specializing in tool design. 10 or more years in supervisory and management roles. Strong project management skills with a proven track record of successful project delivery. Hands-on experience in mold design and construction is essential. Expertise in working with large-scale machinery, including high-tonnage presses (among the largest in the industry). Demonstrated ability to design and manage tooling projects for complex, high-capacity manufacturing equipment. Proficient in 3D modeling software. Ability to read and interpret Moldflow analyses for optimized mold design. Experience working with various mold materials and metal types. Advanced knowledge of cold runner and hot runner manifold systems. Strong analytical, creative, and problem-solving abilities. Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams of engineers and technicians. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and external contacts. Skilled in preparing presentations, technical reports, and conducting situational analysis. In-depth knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes, including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming. Background working with various polymers. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
