Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Machinist 2 will operate, set up, and maintain precision machining equipment to manufacture metal and plastic parts to exact specifications. This role requires an intermediate level of experience, with the ability to work independently, troubleshoot machining issues, and ensure that production meets quality standards and specifications. The Machinist 2 will collaborate closely with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists to ensure efficient production and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup & Operation:
- Set up and operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) and/or manual machines such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills to produce precision parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD designs to produce parts within specified tolerances.
- Adjust machine settings to control feed, speed, coolant flow, and depth of cut to achieve required specifications.
- Quality Control:
- Perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Identify and correct defects in manufactured parts, making necessary adjustments to machines and processes.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot machine malfunctions and production issues.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and tool changes.
- Escalate any significant maintenance or repair needs to the maintenance team or supervisor.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with company safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work with engineering and production teams to resolve machining or production challenges.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for improving machining processes and product quality.
- Documentation:
- Accurately complete job-related documentation, including production logs, quality reports, and machine setup sheets.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 3 years of experience in machining, including operating CNC or manual machines.
- Experience with reading blueprints, drawings, and CAD models.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in the use of precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Intermediate knowledge of machining operations, including turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
- Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a formal machinist apprenticeship program or technical certification is preferred.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods and working in a production environment.
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail for handling small, precision parts.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with CNC programming (G-code/M-code).
- Familiarity with ERP systems for tracking job orders and inventory.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Work Environment:
This role operates in a manufacturing environment, where safety is the top priority. The environment may include exposure to loud noises, metal shavings, coolants, and other typical shop conditions. The Manufacturing Machinist 2 must adhere to all safety standards and wear protective equipment as required.
