Mechanical Technician Level 1

Position Summary: Provide shop fabrication & periodic shipping/receiving support for a small business operating within the thermal processing industry using a variety of metallic and ceramic based materials and metal working equipment to produce high temperature application heating components and furnace systems. 

Essential Functions: 

1. Maintain a valid driver’s license and operate company vehicles.
2. Work periods of extended shifts, typically 10 hours in duration or weekends during critical work evolutions
3. Operate metal working equipment (lathes, mills, drills) & power tools
4. Utilize quality measuring tools, i.e. calipers, micrometers, tape measures etc. 
5. Perform shipping/receiving functions including product packaging, skidding, material handling and tendering shipping paperwork.
6. Operate fork truck and provide material handling support that involves slings and lifting apparatuses
7. Keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly and perform routine, low-level preventative and corrective maintenance task on shop equipment and tools
8. Ability to perform simple shop math: subtraction, addition, multiplication, conversions, division, geometry and algebra.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

1. H.S. degree or better
2. Basic physical labor and mechanical skills and (hardware, hand tools, raw materials, fabrication)

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

1. Perform physical labor up to a maximum of 90% of annual labor hours
2. Remain on feet and move w/in Shop for a period of eight (8) hours with designated breaks
3. Lifting, pushing, pulling, placement of materials on a routine basis, with weight of at 25 lbs
4. Able to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder to a height of 15 feet above the ground and work in a safety harness.
5. Ability to work comfortably and safely around power producing equipment & refractory
6. Must be physically fit to qualify for and able to wear a respirator.
7. Ability to work safely and professionally at customer facilities & work in confined spaces with elevated temperatures
