PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
SUMMARY:
This position requires the applicant to have been diagnosed with a mental illness and be willing to discuss
current recovery techniques which help others diagnosed with a mental illness maintain their health.
Applicants must have in the past, or currently, be receiving services from a Community Mental Health
organization. The applicant will work with people diagnosed with a mental illness in a path towards recovery,
while performing a wide range of tasks to assist someone in meeting established personal goals. The
applicant will work closely with various case managers and outpatient therapists to ensure services are
provided consistent with organizational policies and protocol under Medicaid B3 Services. The applicant
must be willing to work toward Michigan Certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have been diagnosed and treated for a mental health disorder for at least a year; and be willing
to share recovery story when appropriate.
3. Must possess or be willing to work towards certification as a Peer Support Specialist with the
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services or equivalent, and have a minimum of one year
experience working with persons diagnosed with mental illness/intellectual and developmental
disabilities.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, and understand written and verbal information.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and use of computers.
6. Must demonstrate excellent customer services skills and work cooperatively with organizational staff,
persons served, and the general public; and be willing to work in all areas as needed. Some travel is
required.
7. Appointment is subject to a criminal background check and urine drug screen.
8. Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid driver’s license, and provide own transportation.
SALARY: Non-Exempt | Union | $15.50-$20.51 Hourly
