What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian/Maintenance Worker position at Hiawatha Valley Education District?
- Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operations of a variety of tools, machinery, and power equipment used in performing essential functions.
- Ensure compliance with government health and safety standards; keep records of all permits, licenses, and citations.
- Comply with all HVED policies, procedures, and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations.
- Ensure facilities are in good repair and provide a safe environment.
- Maintain facilities and janitorial services; including, but not limited to, snow removal, landscaping, custodial duties, plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, fencing, playground and green space, and parking lots.
- Maintain effective safety programs; complete all safety checks on equipment systems.
- Maintain the supply of all facility cleaning and operating supplies and materials.
- Transport and delivery of HVED materials, furniture and equipment as needed.
- Perform all other duties as required.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, efficiently complete all activities.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all types of members of the community including teachers, administrators, board members, parents, students, and tenants.
- Self-starter, ability to set and meet goals, and problem solve.
- Systems thinker for improvement of facilities, inventory, and equipment.
- Maintain the ability to satisfy all physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; reaching above shoulder level; fine finger dexterity.
- Ability to work flexible hours to avoid student/classroom disruption as much as possible.
- Valid driver's license
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SharePoint, and Google preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College or trade school degree preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- This position will work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environment conditions.
- Travel between HVED programs and member districts required.
- The ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be physically able to push, pull, climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.

Hiawatha Valley Education District is looking for a Custodian/Maintenance Worker to attend to all Hiawatha Valley Education District buildings. The Custodian/Maintenance Worker will attend to all aspects of facility maintenance, school safety, and cleanliness.
Duties (including, but not limited to):
$18.25-$26.50 plus a competitive benefits package. Compensation dependent on experience, education, certifications, and licensure.

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 12 School Districts and three Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has a Setting IV Behavior Program, Students Achieving Integrated Services (SAIL) that provides programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services. Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a program named for Specialized Programming, Education, Comprehensive Therapy and other Resources for their Unique Minds (SPECTRUM). Our SPECTRUM program is located in Hokah. HVED is committed to providing the best services to staff, students, and member districts in southeast Minnesota.
