Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of legal processes and will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to attorneys in our Medicaid area of practice. This role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with client preparation for Medicaid eligibility and applications.
- Regular contact with clients, their family members, ODJFS, and service providers.
- Participate in Medicaid eligibility and redetermination interviews.
- Draft necessary Durable General Powers of Attorney, health care directives, deeds, trusts, and other documents when needed for Medicaid clients for review by attorneys.
- Attend to clients’ miscellaneous issues that arise during preparation for Medicaid eligibility, including special needs trusts, bankruptcy and land sales, communication to pay bills received before Medicaid was effective, VA eligibility, etc.
- Assist attorneys with matters related to Medicaid estate recovery.
- Provide general administrative support for attorneys, including drafting correspondence, scheduling client meetings, opening and closing client files, data entry, copying, faxing, and scanning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, not required.
- Paralegal certification a plus, not required.
- Hands-on experience working with clients and Medicaid-related issues.
- Experience working with ODJFS and drafting Medicaid-related documents.
- Tech-savvy with strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with client management systems preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, including managing electronic and paper client files.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Self-starter, positive attitude, team-player and quick learner.
- Strong work ethic, who is reliable and dependable.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Pass a criminal background check.
