We are accepting applications for a Marine Instructor. Marine Instructors are a regular faculty member of Ruskin High School, working directly for the Senior Marine Instructor (SMI) on a daily basis while having an assistant principal as his/her direct supervisor. He/she MI is the primary instructor/teacher for first year cadets, is the main supply point of contact, assists the SMI with administrative tasks, and is usually the head coach of at least the Drill and Color Guard team. The MI functions as a regular faculty member, working for the SMI, but also works for other school officials and faculty members, as well as community leaders and parents to maintain and strengthen the program.
As a teacher, the MI is responsible for managing the instruction and assessment for his/her cadets assigned in order to increase student achievement and meet individual needs. Please see attachment for detailed job description.

Eligibility Requirements
- Service Requirements : Have active duty or reserve service in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Commissioned Officer in the pay grades of W-1 through O-6, or as a Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) in the pay grades E-5 through E-9 (E-6 or above for retired members).
- Be in a retired or Fleet Reserve status.
- Have been approved for retirement under the Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA).
- Have been approved for retirement benefits for a medical disability.
- Be an honorably discharged Marine Officer or Enlisted Sergeant or above who has served eight or more years of service and be honorable discharged five or less years from the date of application.
- Be an Officer or Enlisted Marine currently serving in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR).
- Educational and Certification Requirements :
- High school graduate.
- Have an associates degree or obtain one within five years of initial date of employment as a JROTC instructor. Warrant Officers (WO) and Limited Duty Officers (LDO), who can apply for either MI or SMI positions, are already certified based upon their Marine Corps educational requirements.
- Have a JROTC teaching certificate for Missouri or obtain one within two years of initial date of employment as a JROTC instructor. This requires satisfactorily completing six classes required for all Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers within two years of employment. These classes are designed to introduce JROTC instructors to the specifics of teaching at the secondary school level.
- Be certified by the Director, MCJROTC to be a MCJROTC instructor.
