What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mid-Level Interior Designer position at Hicks Cazenave Interior Design?
Mid-Level Interior Designer
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hayes Valley)
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Salary or hourly, based on experience
About the Role
Hicks Cazenave Interior Design is seeking a Mid-Level Interior Designer to join our San Francisco-based team. We’re a boutique studio known for creating thoughtful, layered residential interiors rooted in craftsmanship, design integrity, and an ease of living. Our projects range from townhouses in the city to family homes in the mountains — with work spanning SF, Marin, Atherton, Menlo Park, NYC, and Idaho.
This is a dynamic, client-facing role. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, collaborative, and passionate about high-quality design. You’ll work across all phases of design, from concept through installation, with a small and supportive team.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate on design direction and help translate ideas into detailed concepts, presentations, and drawings
- Draft floor plans, elevations, and details in AutoCAD
- Support (or lead, depending on experience) sourcing, specifying, and budgeting FF&E selections
- Create client-facing materials including mood boards, spec books, and presentations
- Attend client meetings, site visits, and installations
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, fabricators, and vendors to uphold design intent
- Oversee and track custom furniture orders from quote to delivery
- Assist with tracking project budgets, timelines, and billing
- Use Asana to manage project tasks and communication
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience in residential interior design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Workspace
- Experience with Design Manager, Studio Designer, or QuickBooks a plus
- Strong design sensibility, with the ability to clearly articulate concepts and vision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and organized with a strong work ethic
- Ability to manage time and multitask across multiple projects
- Must have access to a car for meetings and site visits
- Local to SF or willing to work in-office part-time — we offer flexibility, but this is not a fully remote role
Why Join Us?
We’re a small, experienced team that values design excellence, creative collaboration, and a healthy work-life balance. You’ll get exposure to high-end projects, trusted mentorship, and the opportunity to grow in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
