Join our team of researchers, engineers, and designers to shape the future of biomedical research! The HIDIVE Lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School focuses on the role of humans–scientists, doctors, and patients–in making sense of complex data. We accomplish this by designing novel methods and building tools for data integration, visualization, and exploration.
The lab has recently received funding from the US government for a multi-year project to develop AI-driven data visualization tools and user interfaces for the exploration of large data repositories.
Your responsibility will be to ensure that the user experience and user interfaces for our tools meet the needs of a broad community of scientists, clinicians, and other stakeholders. You will accomplish this by applying state-of-the-art user research techniques to elicit personas, use cases, and evaluation criteria. You will create wireframes and high fidelity user interface mockups. You will partner with the software developers and researchers on our team as well as national and international collaborators to accomplish our goals. You will also coordinate with the day-to-day work of other UI / UX designers on the team and develop processes and documentation for UI / UX design work in the HIDIVE Lab.

The HIDIVE Lab is using a hybrid workplace model and this position can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person. All remote work must be performed within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA-exempt only, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, WA).
Typical Core Duties
- Function as subject matter expert to frame, scope, and lead multiple interdisciplinary projects using a collaborative approach.
- Develop detailed UX specifications and documentation.
- Develop and annotate user flows, journeys, and personas.
- Create intuitive interfaces and interaction layers using best practices, the latest web trends and all available tools to augment the user experience.
- Illustrate design ideas with clear storyboards, process flows, sitemaps, prototypes, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups.
- Create text content and images for digital screens.
- Manage multiple UI / UX design projects simultaneously in collaboration with developer lead, project lead, R&D manager, and the principal investigator.
- Represent the university internally and externally.
- Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct.

This is a one-year term position with strong potential for renewal.Please note : As mentioned the work may be done fully or primarily remote with the expectation of overlap with working hours during 11 AM - 5 PM ET.
