Salary: $95k-$120k 15% bonus

General Purpose
As Principal Scientist/Flavor Scientist, you will play a crucial role in the development of co-dried and dry-blended dairy flavors for the food and dairy industries. From conceptualization to commercialization at the customer level, you will serve as an expert in co-drying and dry blending, encompassing dairy science research, innovation, development, and applications. Your responsibilities will extend to new product development, formulation cost-out opportunities, process improvements, and scouting for new technologies. This role is instrumental in driving organic growth by capitalizing on opportunities and innovations within the pipeline.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct research in dairy science, food science, and equipment to innovate new technologies
- Create new wet and dry dairy systems, dairy flavors, dairy emulsions, and solutions
- Collaborate with engineering and process technology to expand drying, dry blending, and agglomeration capabilities through the discovery of new technology, equipment/process modification, and formulation
- Reformulate products to reduce costs, building least-cost/flexible formulation models considering fluctuating commodity markets and raw material availability.
- Perform applications testing to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations for taste, functionality, and nutrition
- Utilize sensory science tools to provide data points to customers and conduct pilot plant testing for successful scale-up
- Drive the commercialization of new products in collaboration with the process technology team
- Support customers in scale-up and commercialization
- Support sales in understanding customer needs, problems, insights, and strategy
- Collaborate with sales to anticipate future customer needs, brand strategies, and areas for capability development.
- Co-create and utilize the product lifecycle management (PLM) process and adhere to the Scientific Development Standards Process
- Effectively use CRM to manage opportunities, project milestones, and track KPIs related to the opportunity pipeline
Education and Experience
- B.S. Degree in food, dairy or biological science related discipline; Master or PhD preferred
- 8 years of industry experience in R&D
- Proven career advancement in dairy flavors, natural, process and cheese sauces and products
- Successful track record in new product development with multiple examples of commercialized products/solutions under your leadership
- Desired areas of knowledge:
- Co-drying and dry blending combinations of dairy, dairy flavors, seasonings, flavors, colors, and other ingredients
- Seasoning and flavor development
- Agglomeration and instantization of powders
Salary : $95,000 - $120,000
