GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Director of Procurement and Environmental Sustainability is responsible for providing strategy and leadership for procurement activities for High Industries and all associated High companies. The role also heads the environmental sustainability strategy, develops initiatives, and executes priorities to support this across High. Direct, provide approval and control all Procurement operations within scope of responsibility to assure that the manufacturing, service, and support departments are provided with an adequate flow of required goods and services to enable business commitments to be met at a highly competitive cost. On Environment Sustainability, this role requires influencing organizational culture, driving innovation, managing a portfolio of projects and encouraging continuous improvement. Maintain positive working relationships with external partners and internal customers.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- BS degree in Business Administration or related field. MBA preferred.
- 10 years of Procurement and 5 years of environmental sustainability experience for a diversified, mid-sized company. Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
DIMENSIONS (SALES VOLUME, TOTAL EMPLOYEES REPORTING, PAYROLL, ETC.):
- $1 million – Purchasing Operating Budget
- $200 million – Total Purchasing Spend
- 10 - 15 employees – Purchasing

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the President/COO of High Industries Inc and will serve as a member of the HII Leadership Committee.
Reporting directly to the Senior Director Procurement and Environmental Sustainability are the following functions: Procurement services at High Concrete Group and High Steel Service Center. The role provides oversight and consultation of Procurement at the enterprise-wide level (High) for certain goods and services (utilities, etc.) and ad hoc support of High Steel non-main member materials and services.
On Environmental Sustainability, the leader will lead High’s Environmental Sustainability Council, coordinate resources across the High companies and facilitate regular sessions with the High Executive Committee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
PROCUREMENT
- Provide overall leadership to the materials management process including procurement, inbound delivery, and warehousing.
- Bring functions and teams together to benchmark, identify and continuously improve processes and take advantage of synergies across companies. We expect to have best-in-class procurement strategies and processes.
- Provide strategic leadership that complements other High entities and is in line with “Best Business Practices.”
- Maintain a strong service-oriented relationship with all High Companies and any external third-party work under contract.
- Provide appropriate reports summarizing key procurement-related metrics to senior management.
- Ensure the procurement programs operate within compliance of all company, local, state, and federal regulations, and laws.
- Lead the establishment and oversight of a community of suppliers that will support and complement the facilities and skills of High.
- Ensure our Procurement organization is pro-active in seeking out, providing invitation for quotes, and utilizing Disadvantaged Business Enterprise’s (DBE) and Small, Women, and Minority Business’s (SWaM).
- Negotiates major supply contracts and major capital purchases with vendors.
- Makes personal visits to vendor offices/manufacturing sites, scheduled, or as required to assure their continued qualification and satisfactory performance. Also, communicates any appropriate changes to company policies that would impact on their ability to perform to expected standards.
- Makes periodic personal visits to customers to solicit feedback and ensure quality goals are being achieved.
- Provide administrative support and supervision of department members.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
- Lead the High companies’ Environment Sustainability (ES) Council. This is a group of leaders and coworkers across High with responsibility to develop and vet ideas, maintain awareness of ongoing and planned ES initiatives, and support successful project execution. Convene the ES Council at least quarterly.
- Interface with High’s Executive Committee quarterly to report-out on execution progress of our priorities, provide awareness on any external changes, and facilitate decision making on priorities and investments.
- Maintain awareness of all active and planned ES initiatives (those tracked by ES Council and those done “locally”). Maintain active project charters for each ES Council priority initiative, and track project budgets and financial outcomes.
- Where needed, provide hands-on leadership for one or more priority initiatives. Ensure that the teams are gathering relevant facts and making decisions based on them.
- Ensure we have a strong base of external partners to support priority areas and ensure we use sound procurement practices for significant investments.
- Create annual documented audit of scope 1 and 2 emissions for all High companies/locations and maintain historical database for comparison and trending purposes.
- Establish an annual High companies Environmental Sustainability report for both internal and external consumption. Be a proponent for Environmental Sustainability.
- Develop and maintain connections with ES leaders at other companies (locally and nationally) to stay apprised of best practices, new ideas, and key trends in the industry.
- Gather and help prioritize ideas for new initiatives from coworkers, and external sources.
- Stay apprised of incentive programs (tax credits, grants, etc.) at the local, state, and national levels that are companies could benefit from, and ensure we are maximizing our utilization of those programs where appropriate.
- Communicate our ES strategy, initiatives and impact at various company events as requested, which could include Board meetings, High Foundation meetings and Coworker communication meetings.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the legal department to execute legal documents, agreements, contracts, etc.
- Participate on special committees, group meetings, etc. as well as advising other company personnel.
- Performs other duties or special assignments as requested by the HII President/COO.
