RN Clinical Nursing Instructor- Experience in Pediatrics

The mission of the Instructor in the Education Department, regardless of curriculum, is to provide the student(s), our customers(s), with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the field of their chosen program of study. To accomplish this mission, all instructors will utilize their talents, skills, and abilities in a coordinated and consistent team effort under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Nursing.

The following are essential qualifications, duties and areas of responsibility that each instructor agrees to accept as a condition of employment. Job duties and responsibilities are not limited to the items listed below.

QUALIFICATIONS:

(Registered Nurse)

  • Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Hold a minimum of a master's degree or higher from an accredited university which includes course work in nursing, education, or administration
  • Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by (A) One (1) years’ continuous full time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrate clinical competency; and (3) completion of at least one (1) year’s experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in the teaching of registered nursing.

REPORTING LINE: Reports to the Director of Nursing.

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To the College, the Instructor shall:

  • Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of all school policies, and actively participate in their development, implementation, and enforcement.
  • Be committed to interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Develop lesson plans.
  • Provide advance notification regarding lateness, absence, and vacation schedules. A customary minimum of two weeks’ notice in case of voluntary termination is requested.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Actively participate in assigned non-instructional projects as business conditions may require.
  • Perform on campus, all work hours for which instructor is paid, as required.

Administrative – the instructor shall:

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance.
  • Submit final student grades and other reports on time as per school policy.
  • Actively participate in meetings and training programs as required.
  • Maintain flexibility in fulfilling the instructional needs of the school.

Professionalism – the instructor shall:

  • Remain current with developments within their area of instructional responsibility.
  • Maintain professional dress and demeanor, according to company policies.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.
  • Abide by all federal, state and accreditation/compliance rules and regulations.
  • Maintain an attitude of enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate with others.
  • Make recommendation for additions to, or upgrading of, curriculum, course materials, and textbooks.
  • Recommend learning resource/library acquisitions.
  • Treat students with fairness, respect, impartiality, and objectivity.
  • Continually satisfy accreditation and state Department of Education requirements, where applicable, related to maintaining appropriate licensure or certification to be legally employed as an instructor and provide the school with a copy of the current license or certificate and of all renewed licenses and certifications.
  • Regularly participate in professional growth activities and provide documentation of these activities.
  • Participate in scheduled in-service activities.

INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES: Classroom/Lab Mgmt. – the instructor shall:

  • Provide students with a complete syllabus containing course objectives on the first day of class.
  • Exercise firm, fair and consistent class control.
  • Begin and end class/lab on time and facilitate the effective use of class time.
  • Maintain consistent performance when dealing with all students with respect to grading, documentation, policies, and discipline.
  • Provide the Director of Nursing or his/her designee with regular feedback relative to class and student progress and/or problems.
  • Provide student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
  • Review academic progress with students on a regular basis, well in advance of the end of a course.
  • Ensure the classroom/laboratory facility is left in a clean and orderly manner upon conclusion of your scheduled session.
  • Supervise and manage assigned teaching and laboratory assistants.
  • Contact, via telephone, all absent students as required by the college.
  • Maintain an overall student attendance rate in accordance with the college’s fiscal year attendance goal as measured at the end of each term/module and annually.
  • Maintain an overall student retention rate in accordance with the college’s fiscal retention goal as measured at the end of each module/term and annually.

Instructional Presentation – the instructor shall:

  • Present enthusiastic, well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus.
  • Provide students with class/laboratory objectives daily.
  • Present material to meet or exceed all of the approved Course outcomes for the course.
  • Ensure that examination items are based upon and cover all approved Course Outcomes.
  • Utilize a variety of learning modalities and support materials to accentuate presentations and facilitate the learning process.
  • Provide the opportunity for individual tutoring and remediation.
  • Present “self” as a professional role model at all times.
  • Inspire student confidence in the company, college, faculty and self.
  • Relate the material you are presenting to the contemporary workplace.
  • Continually promote the development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, computation, problem solving, and decision-making.

Laboratory Activities – the instructor shall:

  • Assign laboratory activities that coincide with and support the material presented in lecture sessions.
  • Actively supervise all scheduled laboratory activities and hours.
  • Ensure students working on appropriate assignments spend time productively.
  • Provide the opportunity for individual attention.
  • Provide additional assignments/projects as student progress dictates.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean lab and equipment in an operable condition.
  • Conduct initial troubleshooting measures on PCs and lab equipment and promptly label and report all equipment in need of repair.
  • Provide adequate safety measures for students and security measures for lab equipment.

Physical Demands of the Position: The position of Instructor requires the following:

  • The ability to move within the classroom and lab facility to assist students and monitor students’ work and to move to various locations within the school facility (offices, etc.).
  • The ability to operate a computer and its peripheral equipment (printers, keyboard, mouse, etc.)
  • The ability to use lab equipment and instructional aids such as projectors, TVs, VCRs, etc.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be made in support of individual instructor needs.
  • Required Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing

Content Expert minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nursing
  • National Certification in content area (Maternal Child, Pediatric, Medical Surgical, Geriatrics, Mental Health) or 30 continuing education units in the specific content area
  • Clinical experience in content area equal to 30 eight hour shifts within the last three years (in the area in which they have certification) or a clinical experience teaching in the content area for a minimum of 2 semesters within the previous five years.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $60.00 - $65.00 per hour
