What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Vocational Nurse - Urgent Care position at High Desert Medical Group?
High Desert Medical Group is seeking a full time Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for our Urgent Care. This employee will provide direct patient care, possess knowledge and ability to practice as an LVN as defined by the California Nurse Practice Act.
Summary of Duties :
- Provides general nursing care, such as administering medications, initiating I.V. access, drawing blood for laboratory testing, etc.
- Operates required technical equipment in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner. Equipment includes 12-lead ECG, cardiac monitors, Hemocue Glucometer, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, and pulse oximetry.
- Assists in appropriate patient preparation for procedures to include but not limited to laceration repair, eye exams, orthopedic assessments / splinting / pelvic exams.
- Perform intake on all patients to obtain information regarding symptoms and accurate vital signs.
- Assist patients to exam rooms and intake.
- Obtain and document all pertinent information in patient EMR.
- Maintain timely patient flow and room availability.
- Maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
- Reinforce patient education and participate in patient teaching.
- Anticipate, assist, and perform procedures ordered by the provider.
- Ensure appropriate handling and accurate documentation of all medications ordered by the provider.
- Stock and maintain exam rooms, nursing stations, and individual workstations.
- Participate in unit duties such as cleaning and sterilizing instruments and ordering supplies.
- Be knowledgeable of referral system and ensure accurate and timely follow-through with all referrals generated.
- Demonstrate competency with all aspects of patient care provided in Urgent Care.
- Maintain and monitor all equipment used for patient care and testing. Report any discrepancy to supervisor.
- Exercise universal precautions utilized in all patient care.
- Supervise patient care performed by Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs).
- Assist with training and orientation of new personnel.
- Actively participate in nursing QI by identifying problems, providing solutions, and evaluating outcomes.
- Assume responsibilities for narcotic medications as assigned.
- Maintain crash cart, emergency drugs, and equipment as assigned.
- Utilize computers as they pertain to the job.
- Initiate and appropriately participate in a Code White, Code Blue, Code Grey, and Code Red within guidelines of scope of practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Current California LVN license.
- Current IV certification.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Two years ER / Urgent Care experience within the last 5 years preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skils.
- Ability to handle and prioritize tasks in order to meet all given deadlines and productivity goals.
- Ability to responsibly handle matters of a confidential nature.
- Ability to work in a multi-task, high-productive environment.
