Job Summary
- Location: Teachers and staff at High Jump will work in person at 1 of 3 campuses
- University of Chicago Lab Schools (5835 South Kimbark Ave, Chicago, IL 60637)
- Latin School of Chicago (59 W North Blvd, Chicago, IL 60610)
- Francis W. Parker (330 W Webster Ave, Chicago, IL 60614)
- Summer session classes run Monday through Friday and are tentatively scheduled as follows:
- Dates: June 30 - August 1st (with the exception of July 3th and 4th)
- Time: 7:45am - 3:00pm.
- Professional Development: We require 2 days of in-person professional development for all teachers and staff, please tentatively hold the following dates: June 26-27th, 2025.
- Additional training and staff meetings may be required and will be communicated during onboarding.
This is a seasonal, on-site role that involves working with our existing teaching team in the event of planned or unplanned absences. Duties include reviewing lesson plans, delivering instruction, and maintaining classroom management in a variety of subjects and grades. The Campus Substitute Teacher will also provide a supportive and nurturing learning environment for students to thrive in. The job of a Campus Substitute Teacher is to be present each day of session. In the event that you will be covering a class you will
- Supervise the classroom and teach the lesson left by an absent teacher.
- Maintaining a functioning classroom
- Utilize classroom management skills
- Leave a clean classroom
- Teaching the provided curriculum
- Reporting concerns to your Campus Manager
If you are not covering a class, you will function as campus support to the Campus Manager. This may include but is not limited to
- Supervising at lunch or recess
- Supporting teachers or TAs on any given task
- Supporting student dismissal
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Associates degree minimum; bachelors degree preferred
- Teaching certification not required but preferred for content areas
- Experience working with students or in organizations that serve youth
