What We Do Here at HLE:
Over almost 30 years, we have worked in the public works sector. More precisely in highway work. Our area of concentration includes sign lighting, freeway lighting, street lighting, traffic signals, ramp metering systems. Any electrical components that are related to that scope of work fall under our specialty. Our projects physical footprint spans from our Southern California offices throughout California to its Northern Border.
Job Title: Construction Yard Worker
Department: Yard
Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $18.75 per hour to $19.70 per hour
Reports to: Construction Yard Manager
Job Summary:
The Construction Yard Worker will be responsible for maintaining the construction yard, organizing materials, operating equipment, and assisting with loading and unloading supplies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials and tools while maintaining attention to details to ensure the correct items are handled.
- Organize and maintain inventory in the construction yard utilizing Material Management Software (such as KOJO, TENNA).
- Operate machinery as needed.
- Assist with deliveries and ensure the materials are stored properly.
- Pick up and deliver materials and mechanical parts, move company vehicles from and to job sites.
- Perform general yard cleanup, including removing debris and maintaining a safe workspace.
- Conduct inspections of equipment and report on any maintenance needs.
- Follow all safety guidelines and company policies while maintaining integrity in all tasks.
- Support construction crews with materials as required.

- Familiarity with construction tools and equipment.
- Strong work ethic, initiative, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Patience to handle unexpected challenges.
- Effective communication skills with all levels.
- Collaboration skills to work effectively with different team members.
- Willingness to work in outdoor conditions and adapt to changing job duties.
- Safety operate Forklift and Telehandler.
- Effectively utilize KOJO, TENNA.
- Valid drivers license with good driving record.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in construction, warehouse, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is primarily outdoors and exposes the employee to varying weather conditions, as well as working in confined spaces that require crawling or maneuvering in small areas.
- The employee may need to stand/kneel for long periods while working on installations or repairs.
- Many tasks require climbing ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas for installation or repairs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently stretching, reaching, extending arms to use tools or perform tasks in uncomfortable positions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Employee needs to be aware of and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- The physical nature of the job can be demanding and requires good physical fitness, stamina, and the ability to handle various physical tasks safely.
