What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Pool Director position at HIGH MEADOW DAY CAMP?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Want to work with an award-winning summer camp! High Meadow Day Camp is the place for you. The Pool Director is responsible for the safety administration and coordination of all aquatic programs at camp. She/he is responsible for supervising and coordinating the aquatics staff for swimming lessons and recreational swimming. Position assists with general camp program ensuring the safety and well-being of campers following applicable State of Connecticut, Office of Early Childhood and the American Camping Association (ACA).
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Participates in the daily camp administration to coordinate the aquatics schedule with overall program emphasis. Works cooperatively to enrich all camp and aquatic programs including swimming and rainy-day activities and to facilitate general camp operations.
- Supervises aquatic staff and conducts supervisory conferences and performance evaluations and clearly communicates performance expectations.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of pre-camp training, in-service training, and staff meetings throughout the summer. Conducts staff meetings for sharing ideas and planning aquatic programs.
- Follows and enforces Seasonal Staff Personnel Policies. Provides conflict resolution and problem solving with staff as needed.
- Maintains health and safety standards for campers, staff, and self.
- Ensures that well-equipped first aid kits are maintained and available.
- Ensures that all health, safety, and program standards are followed at all times in compliance with ACA and the Connecticut State Laws and regulations.
- Maintains knowledge of emergency action plans and the ability to make immediate lifesaving decisions.
- Performs emergency procedures and drills as it pertains to all aquatic’s programs.
- Follows and enforces Seasonal Staff Personnel Policies. Provides conflict resolution and problem solving with staff as needed.
- Maintains ongoing communication and contact with camp nurse and/or Camp Director regarding the health status of campers and staff as it relates to any impediment in participation of any camp programs. Reports accidents and files incident reports promptly.
- Assumes responsibility for the care and use of pool, aquatics buildings, lifesaving equipment, and other supplies/equipment used.
- Oversees and participates in opening and closing procedures of the pool daily during the camp season.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- 21 years of age
- Ability to work with a diverse group of campers and staff (background and abilities).
- The ideal candidate will possess management experience which relates to job responsibilities including successful experience in camping, swimming, group leadership, and organizational skills. Must possess experience working with children. Must demonstrate his/her lifeguarding and swimming competency skills.
EDUCATION:
- High School graduate or its equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current Lifeguard, First Aid/AED/CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications are required.
- Current Lifeguard Management required.
- Current Water Safety Instructor preferred.
