Family Support Associate

Program & Location: Taunton Family Center, Taunton
Education & Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or relevant work &/or life experience
Pay Range: $19-$23 per hour(dependent on experience)
Status: Full Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8a-4:30p

About Us

SEMCOA's (Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy) mission is to advocate for and provide support to individuals, families, and communities in the areas of substance use, mental illness, domestic violence, homelessness, and parenting.  SEMCOA operates four emergency assistance family shelters that provide supportive services to families and assist them with securing permanent housing. SEMCOA also provides residential recovery home treatment to individuals with substance use disorders, as well as transitional and permanent housing stability and support programs.  Our portfolio also includes two graduate sober houses, the Family Preservation Program, as well as Greater Brockton and Greater Attleboro Taunton Healthy Families programs.

Lead Family Support Associate Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or relevant work and/or life experience
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, including low income families
  • Bilingual Haitian Creole, Spanish a plus
  • Valid Mass Driver’s License for a minimum of three years preferred

Lead Family Support Associate Requirements

  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas in logical and clear fashion
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a demanding work load while adhering to project timelines
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs including the ability to learn / use the Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) electronic participant record system and High Point and Affiliated Organization (HPAO) systems and applications
  • Must have the ability to work with others in cooperative and collaborative manner
  • An understanding of the relationship between substance use, domestic violence, mental health issues and homelessness
  • Ability to understand and implement Trauma Informed Care
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries and adheres to code of ethics
  • Comply with federal and state regulations regarding confidentiality
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable policies and procedures of HPAO
  • Complete TB screening requirements
  • Certification in the HPAO approved de-escalation program
  • CPR Certification (minimum one per shift)

Lead Family Support Associate Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of the program, while respecting the dignity of the participants
  • Maintain logs which include, but are not limited to: sign out book, visitor book, chore sheet, FSA shift checklist & drill roster
  • Complete Incident/Environmental Report forms when required
  • Understand and implement program policies, DHCD Scope of Services, Program Guidelines and DHCD Uniform Shelter Rules
  • Have thorough knowledge of 51A filing of child abuse and neglect in accordance with company policy
  • Welcomes families and conduct thorough orientation upon arrival
  • Maintain strong rapport and open communication with participants
  • Responsible for all admission/discharge documentation, when applicable
  • Utilize trauma-informed verbal de-escalation skills to diffuse situations and report to Case Manager / Program Director
  • Provide family with informational resources about surrounding area
  • Complete a minimum of three facility checks during your shift, paying special attention to alarms and locks
  • Model appropriate parenting techniques for all families
  • Relieve co-workers on time and never leave the facility unattended
  • Find your own relief when you are unable to cover your shift and get the appropriate approval for the changes
  • Cover FSA shifts as needed
  • Provide transportation for participants as needed
  • Complete room inspections per policy
  • Answer phone calls and welcome visitors
  • Attend supervision, required staff/mandatory meetings and facility meetings
  • Participates in annual Continuous Quality Improvement project and comply with Quality Assessment Report data collection requirements as indicated
  • Assists in recruitment, training and supervision of FSA staff, responsible for ensuring that all FSA staff attend mandatory trainings
  • Scheduling of FSA staff as indicated
  • Assist with coordination of donations
  • Coordinate room/chore inspection schedule to ensure that rooms and building are clean, in good condition, safe and secure as indicated
  • Organization and maintenance of storage spaces including ordering/monitoring house supplies and maintaining inventory list
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Director, and/or COO of SEMCOA
