The Assistant / Associate Dean of Experiential Education provides primary oversight of all operational aspects of the Office of Experiential Education (OEE) in the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy (FWSOP). The person in this position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing experiential sites, student placements and clinical affiliation agreements related to Experiential Education for the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy and for the ensuring the adequacy and quality of all experiential sites, preceptors and programs. The Assistant / Associate Dean of Experiential Education directly manages all operational aspects of the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) and provides oversight of the Director of the Longitudinal Patient (LPE) and Introductory Pharmacy Practice (IPPE) experiences. The person in this position also provides direct oversight of the Coordinator of Experiential Education. The Assistant / Associate Dean of Experiential Education will be appointed as a promotion-path faculty member in the Department of Clinical Sciences at a rank consistent with qualifications and experience. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited College/School of Pharmacy Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in North Carolina Minimum of three years of administrative experience at a level at or higher than a director level or its equivalent in an accredited College/School of Pharmacy or a comparable leadership position outside of academia In-depth knowledge of experiential education Minimum of two years of prior experience teaching in and/or precepting students from an ACPE-accredited College/School of Pharmacy Working knowledge of Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards and accreditation requirements Strong verbal and written communication skills Skill in dealing with a diverse group of people Strong conflict management skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience overseeing experiential education experiences. Experience in strategic planning and execution. DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES Experiential Sites and Preceptors Develops and maintains professional relationships to support the experiential program. Identifies, recruits, and retains a sufficient number of high-quality IPPE, APPE and LPE sites to accommodate all FWSOP students and ensure overload capacity. Maintains a comprehensive preceptor onboarding, training, and continuous professional development program. Organizes, plans, and leads the Preceptor Advisory Board. Continually evaluates and refines (when needed) the FWSOP preceptor model. Administrative Responsibilities Leads the ongoing development, updating and maintenance of all policies in the Office of Experiential Education and FWSOP pertaining to experiential education (e.g., Experiential Education Manual, APPE syllabi, Clinical Affiliation Agreements) and ensure that they are readily accessible to all School of Pharmacy faculty and administrators. Ensures HPU meets or surpasses all ACPE standards regarding experiential education. Serves as the direct supervisor for the Director of IPPE / LPE and the Coordinator of Experiential Education. Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement Coordinates the assessment of all experiential learning in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the FWSOP Assessment Committee and in accordance with the School of Pharmacy Assessment Plan. Assists in establishing formative and summative indicators of achievement in experiential courses. Assists in using data in a continuous and systematic process of evaluating the outcomes of the Office of Experiential Education and FWSOP. Develops and refines assessment tools to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of student learning outcomes in FWSOP experiential courses (APPEs, IPPEs and LPE). Contributes to the School of Pharmacy continuous quality improvement initiatives based on the strategic plan of the school. Teaching and Committee Service Teaches within courses as assigned by the Dean and Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Coordinates and teaches the APPE Preparatory Course. Serves (or appoint someone from the Office of Experiential Education to serve) as a member of the Curriculum and Assesment Committees. Serves as an ex-officio member of the School’s Executive Committee. Serves on other school and university committees as assigned by the Dean. Undertakes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean. Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) Plans, coordinates, and manages students assigned to all APPEs. Assigns students to APPE rotations within all APPE zones. Serves as a liaison to all experiential sites, physically visit each APPE zone at least annually, and physically visit each APPE site periodically as designated by accreditation requirements. Serves as the coordinator for all APPE courses, and ensure achievement of learning outcomes. Refines the APPE curriculum utilizing feedback from preceptors and students as well as direct observation of the sites to continuously improve the experiential curriculum and student outcomes. Ensures quality of APPE experiences by establishing specific learning outcomes, conducting site visits and addressing challenges /conflicts as they arise. Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) / Longitudinal Patient Experience (LPE) Oversees and ensures adequacy and quality of IPPE sites. Oversees the Director of the Longitudinal Patient Experience (LPE) Program and Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs).
