What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant/ Associate Director of Admissions, School of Law position at High Point University?
High Point University School of Law invites applicants to serve as an Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions. This individual will have the exciting opportunity to assist the Associate Dean of Admissions in designing and building the law school’s admissions office in order to attract and enroll a talented, motivated, and varied student body. This individual will work with the Associate Dean and other law school personnel to implement the recruiting and admissions efforts for the law school’s J.D. program. The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2025.
Responsibilities will include:
- Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Admissions, implementing the recruiting and admissions efforts for the School of Law’s J.D. program.
- Coordinating and scheduling on-campus recruiting events for prospective law students.
- Traveling to attend national and regional recruiting events important to the law school’s recruitment efforts. (eight-twelve weeks of travel per year)
- Managing the law school application process, including overseeing application file processing, correspondence, database management, and reporting.
- Managing law school communications with prospective students and admitted candidates prior to matriculation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five or more years of professional work experience
- Willingness to contribute actively to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the School of Law and University
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills sufficient to inspire and work effectively with School of Law faculty, staff, students, and prospective students
- Excellent written and oral communication skills that enable candidate to communicate with friendliness, enthusiasm, patience, and respect
- Adept decision-making skills, including the ability to analyze and use data in decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to engage in periodic overnight and weekend travel (most frequent from late September to mid-November) to support law school recruiting and admissions efforts
- Strong computer skills and facility with technology, including the ability to learn new software programs quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school
- Prior experience in law school or graduate level admissions
- Knowledge of law school admissions computer platforms, including the LSAC Unite Platform
- Experience creating and managing marketing campaigns, including digital communications and social media.
Essential Functions:
- Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Admissions, plans and conducts online and in-person recruitment events, including events held at identified undergraduate institutions (selected primarily based on potential applicant data).
- Travels to attend national and regional recruiting events important to the law school’s recruitment efforts.
- Assists in developing, reviewing, updating, and distributing recruitment materials.
- Recruits and supervises any student workers who assist with tours, events, and with contacting and recruiting law school applicants.
- Works with the Associate Dean to coordinate all prospective student and applicant communication efforts.
- Responds to incoming questions about the law school admissions process.
- Manages the law school’s social media strategies in order to maintain a multifaceted recruitment plan.
- Counsels prospective applicants, applicants, and admitted students about the law school admissions and matriculation process.
- Oversees the collection of application materials to facilitate file completion and expedite the application decision process.
- Assists with the review and evaluation of application materials.
- Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, manages the communication of admissions decisions to all applicants.
- Gathers admissions-related data needed for assuring compliance with any relevant accreditation standards regarding the law school’s admissions and enrollment and for periodic reporting to law school surveying organizations, such as US News and Princeton Review.
- Cultivates relationships with prelaw advisors and members of the legal community designed to enhance recruitment strategies
- Collaborates with High Point University’s Admissions Office to facilitate the law school’s obtaining its recruiting, enrollment, and scholarship goals.
- Liaises with the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) in order to best to utilize LSAC services.
- Attends meetings, webinars, and workshops to stay updated on issues related to law school admissions.
