The Data Analysis and Reporting position in the Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) is responsible for providing accurate coding, reporting and integration within and across IA departmental software solutions. These functions are essential for the successful administration of fundraising efforts. This position also serves as a backup for other key Advancement Services functions, including gift processing and data maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college.
Experience and Training
- A minimum of three to five years of experience with Raiser’s Edge, a comparable fundraising system, or a relational database is required;
- A minimum of three to five years of experience with data reporting, analysis, and cleanup is required;
- Strong experience using Microsoft Office software is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Knowledge of system databases, data elements, and data analysis;
- Understanding of programming logic;
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
- Knowledge of fundraising techniques, preferably in the higher education environment;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications (Word, Excel);
- Strong communication skills;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, utilize discretion and exercise good judgement;
- Ability to prioritize work assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Acts as the primary reporting expert, responsible for extracting and formatting data for various purposes such as financial reporting, weekly reporting, donor lists in publications, pledge tracking and reminders, Business Office needs, Retreats, and Staff meetings. Functions as the central expert, providing training to IA staff and others on the utilization of queries, exports, and reports.
- Performs any needed data management and maintenance of the development database, ensuring accuracy and integrity of constituent or gift information.
- Assists with technical requirements, performs imports/exports, or manages software that performs imports/exports of data for third party systems such as for constituent biographical information, the Phonathon, credit card processing, website integration, Admissions student information, Business Office processing, etc.
- Assists with constituency synchronization, ensuring accuracy in the database.
- Performs necessary audits of gifts and pledges and provides guidance when necessary to the Gift Processing Team.
- Collaborates with the Manager of Data Analysis and Reporting in researching, developing, implementing, and enforcing University policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with IRS, UPMIFA, and FASB regulations related to charitable giving, incorporating updates based on technical advances, changes in accounting practices, and evolving laws.
- Ensures the maintenance of new and established criteria for recurring reporting needs within the Office of Institutional Advancement.
- Collaborates with IT, Financial Aid, the Business Office, annual auditors, and various departments to address operational and reporting requirements associated with the Institutional Advancement function.
- Maintains policies and procedures for processes related to the database and reporting.
- Works jointly with the Manager of Data Analysis and Reporting to assess new technology or functionality.
- Other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Maintains positive donor relations through accurate reporting of the development database.
- Expands the University’s database of development prospects.
- Ensures timely and accurate reports to track and assist with successful fundraising activities.
