High Point University’s Department of English invites applications for one full-time instructor position to start August 11, 2025.
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in English or a related field, evidence of successful teaching, and demonstrate a willingness to teach writing about primary research and multimodal writing in the first-year writing requirement.
The teaching load is 4/4, weighted with sections of first-year writing. Full-time instructors are encouraged to develop and teach their own first-year Intellectual Discovery seminar, General Education literature, Integrative, or Service Learning courses. Other upper-division teaching opportunities in Public and Professional Writing, Literature, and Creative Writing depend on how the applicant’s area of expertise meets the enrollment needs of the department and university.
Located in High Point, North Carolina, High Point University is a private comprehensive university with a liberal arts mission. Full-time Instructors receive medical and retirement benefits and professional development funds on 9-month renewable contracts. They have voting privileges and serve on departmental committees, but no research, advising, or university committee service is required. New hires will be required to attend orientation activities starting the week of August 11.
