JOB SUMMARY:
To support students in achieving school success through addressing their social, academic, emotional, behavioral, and vocational needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as member of school Positive Support Team (PST).
- Serve as a member of school Section 504 Team.
- Implement guidance curriculum and career/education programs for students.
- Provide responsive services to students as necessary.
- Work with students and staff individually and in groups to address issues and barriers to success.
- Assist principal in coordinating state and district testing program for the school.
- Serve as a consultant/resource to staff and parents to help meet the needs of students.
- Assist students with development of long-range career/educational plans and class schedules.
- Communicate and coordinate with district services and outside agencies to provide services to students and their families.
- Assist students in transition from one educational grade or level to the next, including college/scholarship application process and employment process.
- Maintain records and documentation of services to students.
- Work with Juvenile Court, DSS, DMG, and other agencies to meet the comprehensive needs of students.
- Other duties as assigned by the Administration.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Appropriate Missouri counseling certification.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
- Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to use and teach mathematics commensurate with assigned position.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
- Identifies and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent human relation skills.
- Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee will regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.
