What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Support Interventionist position at High Ridge Elementary?
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide quality support for students with special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Conduct observations on students displaying problematic behaviors or social emotional concerns
- Complete Functional Behavior Assessments
- Identify function of behavior and select appropriate evidence based behavior interventions
- Interview building staff, parents and other stakeholders to gather data regarding student behavior and environment
- Write and present Behavior Intervention Plans to building teams
- Facilitate meetings between building staff (teachers, paras, administrators),parents, and community agencies (Children’s Division, Juvenile Office staff, counselors, therapists)
- Model behavior strategies to building staff for each behavior plan
- Assists in de-escalating students and performing Handle With Care restraints when needed
- Gather data regarding students’ behaviors and classroom removals to evaluate effectiveness of BIP
- Monitor BIP effectiveness and adjust interventions based on behavior data
- Works with building team to determine if special education referrals are needed
- Assist SPED team with writing IEP behavior goals for newly identified students transferring from District Behavior Team to Special Education services
- Coach middle school SRA in providing pull out social skills lessons to students when deemed necessary
- Coach middle school SRA in providing push in to classrooms to provide explicit social skills instruction to behavior team students
- Monitor and compile data using building middle school SRA behavior logs and present data to supervisor as needed
- Monitor confidentiality of student records and intervention plans
- Ongoing communication with teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents
- Cover elementary buildings for administrators to address behaviors when both admins will be out of the building
- Consult with teachers and building staff to create building level behavior plans that are not maintained by the district behavior team.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior experience in a school setting is desired
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items, invoices, bills, purchase orders and other related items.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively collaborate with both school personnel and outside agencies.
- Ability to interact effectively with students and parents in solving student problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.
