DESCRIPTION: The Director of Athletics reports directly to the supervisor and is an educational leader and teacher at the school. The Athletic Director develops, manages, and supervises the school’s athletic programs. Requires evening and weekend commitments.
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 to $70,000

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s degree, ideally in physical education or experience in a related field. 2. At least four years of relevant experience in an athletics-related role in an educational environment. 3. Experience teaching and coaching different sports as well as different levels (middle school, junior varsity, varsity). 4. Successful background working with student athletes and coaches. 5. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach. 6. Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues and parents. 7. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 8. Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role. 9. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing. 10. Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.

Supervises: Athletic Coaches
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop, manage, and supervise developmentally appropriate athletic programs in line with the school’s overall mission and goals and accessible to all students. 2. Work with the senior leadership team to continue to innovate and develop a strategic vision for athletics at Warden. 3. Represent the Warden School District in all league and athletic associations, including SCAC and attend all meetings. 4. Schedule all middle school, junior varsity, and varsity contests for the school’s athletic teams. 5. Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent and properly trained coaches. 6. Hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate all coaches. 7. Supervise all athletic events. 8. Prepare and implement the annual departmental budget. 9. Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of all school athletic uniforms and equipment. 10. Ensure that athletic fields and facilities are prepared for hosting athletic contests. 11. Communicate with both students and parents regarding appropriate expectations for each level of competition. 12. Ensure that all athletic equipment, facilities, fields, and courts are safe for daily use. 13. Report athletic achievements for both individuals and teams to the Communications Office. 14. Maintain accurate records of team and individual athletic statistics and accomplishments. 15. Organize coaches’ meetings at the beginning of each season to review expectations, guidelines, and rules of play. 16. Distribute weekly facility schedule so coaches can plan practices accordingly. 17. Schedule transportation for all away athletic contests. 18. Secure the necessary number of qualified officials for each home contest. 19. Review and revise the department handbooks annually. 20. Distribute Parent-Student Athletic Handbook to team parents each season. 21. Work with coaches to ensure that approved team spirit wear is available. 22. Order and distribute athletic apparel for coaches. 23. Update athletic website pages with schedules, locations, and results of all interscholastic games. 24. Coordinate with athletic secretary to ensure that all student-athletes have turned in required forms/paperwork and completed the concussion baseline Impact Test. 25. Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Working area will be in multiple locations depending on the needs of the program. Supervision of athletic events. Assignment changes may be necessary and the changes may include a release from employment or a change in placement within the district.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
