High School Varsity Football Coach

                                                               POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  Varsity Coach

REPORTS TO:  Athletic Director and Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  One-year limited supplemental contract

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Pupil's Activity Permit from The Ohio Department of Education.
• Previous coaching experience in sport assigned is desired.
• Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport.

JOB GOAL:

1. To carry out the goals and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the Athletic Director and Principal.
2. To instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policy approved by the Canal Winchester Board of Education and is responsible for it’s' implementation.
2. Has knowledge of the existing system, state and league regulations; implements it consistently.
3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.  Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
4. Maintains discipline and works to increase moral and cooperation within the school sports' program.
5. Assists in necessary preparation to hold the scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.  Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
6. Oversees in the collection of medical cards and eligibility information for the OHSAA.
7. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
8. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is a member of the team.  
9. By his/her presence at all practices, games and while traveling, provides assistance and guidance to and safeguards for each participant.
10. Directs student managers and statisticians on the respective teams.
11. Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours.
12. Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary.
13. Oversees the issuing, collection, storing, reconditioning and inventory of equipment and supplies.
14. Recommends budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program.
15. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices and authorizes who may enter.
16. Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
17. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on cleanliness of the facility.  Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of the specific sport equipment.
18. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
19.  Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its' care and proper use.
20. Assists the Athletic Director and principal in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
21. Completes the contest report forms and returns them to the Athletic Director the following day.
22. Instructs team members as to changes in the rules and teaches the fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the Athletic Director and principal.
23. Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering for the Athletic Director.
24. Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the Head Coach of that sport.
25. Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the Athletic Director and principal.
26. Arrives early enough before practice, contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
27. Helps in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
28. Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents.
29. Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Athletic Director and principal.
30. Attends most of the contests, when possible, of the other teams in the program.
31. Performs such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the Athletic Director and principal.

Salary : $5,170 - $10,340
