Reports to: Chief Executive Officer, Director of Programs and Operations and Workforce Development Coordinator
Location: Reno, Nevada
Position Summary:
The Community Health Advocate will lead in the implementation of High Sierra AHECs healthcare workforce pipeline programs including Project Prevent, Project ROARR, and Level Up, specifically in our rural catchment areas of Churchill County, Lyon County, Storey County, Carson City, and Douglas County, with the possible of expansions to other rural counties. This Community Health Advocate position will be responsible for expanding our current programming efforts to rural areas in Northern Nevada. The position will provide support through monitoring the progress of all student participants, supporting data collection and maintenance, and providing support to academic and employer-based partnerships. Candidate will be expected to identify and conduct various strategies, in alignment with the High Sierra AHEC mission, for overall program development, design, improvement, and sustainability planning. This role requires exceptional time management skills, high level and professional communication skills, and experience in educating/mentoring/coaching to be successful in community-based project implementation and impact. There will be travel required for this position, so it may be preferable for a candidate to live in a rural area.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Present health education and promotion programs, such as training workshops and school, community, and employer presentations;
- Assist with curriculum development and design, meeting Health Science Standards;
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations;
- Assist in the coordination, maintenance, and sustainability of Project Prevent and Project ROARR;
- Collecting and analyzing statistical data for outreach/educational activities, aggregating, and inputting for center tracking purposes and grant reports;
- Provide mentorship and guidance to assigned Student Ambassadors and seek opportunities aligned to Student Ambassadors academic interests and needs (i.e. professional development, trainings, certifications, etc.);
- Prepare and distribute materials (writing, designing, and printing) for initiatives, including marketing materials, PR, presentations, social media, advertising, swag, reports, etc.);
- Attend and participate in organizational meetings, presentations, development, and special events;
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major in public health, health education, education, social work, or related field;
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience in health promotion, community engagement, research and development, and/or teaching;
- A combination of education and/or relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of the degree requirements.
- Community Health Worker I certification or ability to complete certification within the first 6 months of employment.
- Nevada Department of Education Substitute teaching license or ability to complete licensure within the first 90 days of employment.

- Strong writing, speaking, and visual communications skills;
- Possess the ability to effectively interact with persons from various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds;
- Ability to persuade, encourage, inform, and stimulate general interest and enthusiasm through oral presentations and written communications.
- Knowledge of the rural areas in Northern Nevada
Work environment:
Generally works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting, evening and weekend hours sometimes required. Must possess ability and willingness to perform job-related travel, majority within the state of Nevada.
License required: Must have valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation. Travel required for this position
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
