Job Description | Description of Project The Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT) partnering with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT), is seeking one full-time resource to provide remediation guidance and training to MNDOT's Digital Accessibility Coordinator (DAC) and development staff. - At a high level, the resource will provide guidance, training, and resources aimed at helping MNDOT developers create, audit, and test the accessibility of various applications and websites.
- This includes software applications, web applications, websites, and mobile apps.
- This work will involve assisting staff in remediating current projects, developing an accessible library and frameworks for developers, and training personnel on how to create, test, and report on the accessibility status of their projects.
Sample Tasks - Train MNIT DOT developers personnel to create, audit and test accessibility compliance of websites and applications using various accessibility testing techniques and applications.
- Work with developers to remediate current projects.
- Collaborate with the developers to create a library of accessible components, patterns, and frameworks.
- The successful resource and DAC will create a comprehensive resource library and develop instructional materials to help developers stay up to date on best practices for building accessible applications.
Desired Skills - 2 years of work experience in accessible web development, testing, training, remediation, and advocacy.
- 2 years of work experience as a developer creating WCAG 2.1 Level AA complaint websites, desktop and mobile applications.
- Expertise in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
- Deep understanding of standard web markup languages and best practices (HTML/XML/CSS/ARIA/JavaScript/Angular).
- Knowledge of JUnit and Selenium testing frameworks.
- Applied understanding of how various web accessibility elements (or their absence) affect users with disabilities.
- Expertise in web development, programming, and front-end best practices.
- Experience using accessibility tools such as NVDA, Voiceover, ZoomText, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
- Ability to optimize code and design for accessibility.
- Skills to test and report the state of accessibility of websites and applications using various accessibility testing techniques, tools, and applications.
- Experience in manual, functional and compatibility testing.
- Experience in planning and managing stakeholder communications and process change management.
- Experience working with stakeholders on both a technical level of resolving issues and helping develop a monitoring framework.
- Experience in collaborating, training, and providing guidance using Teams or Skype in a remote development environment.
