General Purpose: The Dean of Curriculum manages the strategic planning, execution, and assessment of academic programs to ensure they align with institutional objectives and address the varied needs of the student population. This position provides guidance in curriculum development and instructional practices, advancing academic quality and innovation across all programs. Additionally, the Dean works closely with faculty and institutional partners to ensure seamless program delivery and ongoing enhancement. A key aspect of the role involves creating and overseeing professional development opportunities for faculty, while promoting teaching strategies that enhance student engagement and success across various learning formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: The Dean of Curriculum is responsible for leading the design and development of in-person, hybrid, and online academic programs. Additionally, this role involves implementing, and assessing various curriculum elements, including course structures, syllabi, assessments, and instructional materials, to ensure they are effective across multiple delivery methods.
The Dean’s responsibilities include developing an innovative approach to asynchronous learning, defining clear structures, establishing time-on-task, and creating tools to monitor student engagement. The Dean also integrates advanced instructional technologies into various learning environments to enhance the overall educational experience. To support faculty, the Dean leads training on curriculum design and teaching methods to ensure staff and faculty are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary for success.
In addition, the Dean participates in the creation and evaluation of new academic programs, working with teams on resource selection and preparing regulatory documentation. Staying informed on trends in adult education, the Dean applies the latest best practices to curriculum design.
The Dean also contributes to the curriculum review process, overseeing the preparation of documentation for advisory and committee meetings. By assessing program effectiveness using student achievement data and feedback from faculty and students, the Dean identifies areas for improvement and implements changes that align with emerging educational trends.
The Dean ensures that all academic programs and related documentation comply with institutional, accreditation, and regulatory standards. The role involves maintaining and updating curriculum documentation to align with strategic goals and accreditation requirements, ensuring the programs consistently meet the highest standards.
Education and/or Experience: Required minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, teaching, or other related field is required.
Minimum 3 years of curriculum design experience, preferably in higher education.
Supervisory: This is a supervisory position.
