Director of OSP Construction

The Director of OSP Construction will play a critical leadership role in overseeing and managing the entire fiber construction process, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution. This position will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective deployment of fiber infrastructure while maintaining quality standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing large-scale fiber construction projects, vendor management, and cross-functional collaboration.

Job Duties:

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the fiber construction team, ensuring the timely and successful deployment of fiber optic networks.
• Create and implement construction processes and best practices to streamline fiber build projects.
• Oversee and mentor internal and external teams to meet company objectives and deadlines.
• Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules, ensuring that deadlines are met and projects are completed within budget.
• Monitor construction progress, resolving any issues that arise to avoid project delays and cost overruns.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of project milestones, permitting, safety standards, and other regulatory requirements.
• Lead the development and management of the construction budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial goals.
• Approve and track expenses, identify areas for cost optimization, and ensure profitability on all construction projects.
• Forecast and allocate resources appropriately to meet budgetary requirements and avoid overages.
• Identify, vet, and manage relationships with external contractors and vendors for both aerial and underground fiber construction.
• Monitor the performance of vendors and contractors to ensure they meet project specifications, safety standards, and timelines.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor the quality of work, ensuring adherence to engineering specifications and industry best practices.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and customer service teams to ensure seamless execution of fiber build-outs and to address any operational challenges.
• Provide regular status updates to senior leadership on project timelines, costs, and risks.
• Ensure coordination between construction teams and network operations for successful service activation

Experience & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• 10 years of experience in fiber construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing both aerial and underground fiber builds.
• Proven track record of managing large-scale, complex construction projects within the telecommunications or broadband industry.
• Extensive experience in managing vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts and managing third-party performance.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic construction processes, including planning, scheduling, cost management, and regulatory compliance.
• Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage large project budgets and optimize resource allocation.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to travel as required to oversee construction projects in multiple locations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex situations under pressure.
