SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing is responsible for supervising all aspects of the nursing programs at Highland Community College. This includes supervision of curriculum, instruction, personnel, clinical and facilities. Programs presently under the supervision of this position are: the LPN to RN Completion Program; Practical Nursing; LPN IV Therapy Certification; Nursing Simulation Center; and Allied Health. The Director will be responsible for assuring students are introduced to the responsibilities, knowledge, techniques, and skills that are necessary for the successful and safe practice of nursing and successful completion of Kansas State Board of Nursing licensure requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop and promote goals and objectives for the nursing programs.
- Manage recruitment, selection, retention of contract and adjunct faculty & staff of supervised programs.
- Supervise faculty and staff in the nursing programs under the direction, policies and procedures of HCC.
- Plan semester class schedule and clinical rotations for students and faculty.
- Coordinate with the Kansas State Department of Education, State Board of Nursing, and meet other state and federal regulations to maintain a certified professional program.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with cooperating clinical sites.
- Maintain nursing credentials in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
- Evaluate and revise course content, textbooks, teaching resources, and evaluation materials with the assistance of the faculty.
- Coordinate the selection of students for the nursing programs following approved admission policies.
- Build positive school/community relations:
- Support the mission of the college;
- Facilitate cooperation between all persons in the school community.
- Practice responsible fiscal, facility and resource management:
- Prepare annual budget request for the nursing programs;
- Procure classroom supplies and equipment following budget guidelines;
- Establish student behavior guidelines that ensure care/maintenance of college facilities & equipment;
- Procure appropriate resources for teaching adopted curriculum standards;
- Maintain an inventory of nursing program equipment and supplies.
- Follow and support college improvement initiatives and state and federal mandates:
- Participate in target area goals, interventions and activities;
- Compile needed support documentation;
- Ensure student mastery of adopted curriculum.
- Teach classes as schedule allows and per KSBN guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with the provisions of the college.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing required.
- Current Kansas or Multistate R.N. license required.
- Should have a minimum of three years approved experience in an accredited nursing program
- Must meet the Kansas Board of Nursing requirements for program administration of an accredited nursing program.
- Current working knowledge of clinical procedures and documentation necessary.
- Supervisory experience highly desired.

Salary : $65,000 - $70,000
