Position Summary
Coordinates cardiac stress testing and related monitoring and communication within the outpatient clinic/IV Therapy departments. Functions as the primary interface for identification of cardiac rhythms, identification of abnormal and life-threatening rhythms and conditions, and communication of pertinent medical information to the appropriate patient care staff. Responsible for assignment of cardiac telemetry equipment, cardiac rhythm interpretation and related documentation, activation of emergent response, and daily medical record updates. Assists in the responsibility and management of Outpatient Treatment/IV Therapy patient population. Provides total nursing care for the population served. Uses the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and supervising individual patient care.

Unit Specific Accountabilities
- Assists in the responsibility for Outpatient Treatment/IV Therapy. This will include becoming proficient in placing PICC / Midlines.
- Assists with the performance of diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms, stress tests, bubble studies, cardioversions, and monitoring patient recovery after cardiac procedures.
- Identifies patient’s needs and problems and works toward solutions with assistance to patients, patient’s family or significant other, physician and all hospital departments participating in patient care.
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients.
- Monitoring patient vital signs and heart function.
- Providing health education to patients and their families about heart health.
- Working closely with doctors to create a care plan for patients.
- Be able to cross train and fulfill duties for the OP Specialty Services, including Endoscopy.
- Helping patients to manage their symptoms and to cope with their diagnosis.
- Responding to emergencies such as cardiac and respiratory distress.
- Coordinating with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Maintaining and updating patient records and charts.
- Be able to work flexible hours.
- Assures licensure of ordering physician per policy.
- Administers medication and provides treatment accurately.
- Verbalizes understanding of the need for patient confidentiality during phone conversations. faxing information and verbal communication between health care professionals.
- Clean and maintain equipment and supplied used in the treatment of patients.
- Evaluates and selects new products. Educates the staff on the use of these products.
- Assist manager in budget preparation and responsible for ordering supplies.
- Maintains professional standards by participating in research, in-services, committees, PI projects, etc.
- Completes annual skills validation, maintains competencies and education per Department/Hospital policy. Shows knowledge of new trends and techniques in nursing.
- Always maintain a safe and organized work area.
- Demonstrates a good working relationship with all Physicians/Providers and their respective offices.
- Attends required number of departmental meetings.

Minimum Experience: Two years of nursing experience required.
Preferred Experience: Three to five years of Medical-Surgical /ED/ Cardiovascular/Critical Care/ICU nursing preferred.

Uses Universal Precautions when tasks being performed present the possibility of exposure to blood or body fluids; this includes using appropriate personal protective equipment and work practices.
Physical Demands: Physically/Emotionally able to handle irregular hours and stressful situations with minimal absences. The position requires coordination, corrected vision, hearing, the use of two hands, two feet, the ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time. Bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting items up to 75 pounds. Verbal ability to express ideas clearly, and the ability to listen to others. The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after an offer of hire has been made. The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
Work Environment: The position requires tolerance of stressful work conditions. Due to the nature of the position, the RN may be exposed to various pathogens. There will be exposure to unpleasant patients. Must be able to handle emergency and crisis situations.
Work Schedule: The RN is usually scheduled for 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday for a total of 80 hours in a 2-week pay period. The position may require flexible hours and schedules. Must be willing to work according to hospital needs and float if necessary.
