Position Summary:
Responsible for performing technical duties in preparation of surgical, autopsy, and cytology specimens for microscopic examination. It may also involve technical instruction of students in an ASCP-approved Histologic Technique program.

Responsible for performing technical duties in preparation of surgical, autopsy, and cytology specimens for microscopic examination. It may also involve technical instruction of students in an ASCP-approved Histologic Technique program.
Position Accountabilities:
- Receive and accession tissue and cytology specimens and prepare specimens for Histotech processing.
- Cut sections and stain according to established guidelines for routine and special stains and cover slip and label finished slides for the pathologist’s review.
- Process cytology specimens.
- Assist the Pathologist with frozen section as needed.
- Maintain stock of reagents for staining and processing.
- Maintain equipment, instruments and cleanliness of work area.
- Retrieve blocks and slides for review as needed.
- Ordering and accessioning, history card file, patient inquiry, and results reporting.
- Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
- Comply with universal precautions.
- Cover Phlebotomy as designed for the position.
- Ability to interact well with physicians and patient care staff.

Position Qualifications:
Education Required: A Bachelors degree and one year of training in an approved program for Histology.

Certification Preferred: Must be certified Histologist HLT (ASCP) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
