Highland Elementary K-6 Music Teacher to begin 25-26

 

Job Title:                Elementary Music Teacher                                                 

Reports to:             Building Principal     

Bargaining Group:  Clarkston Education Association (CEA)                 

FLSA Status:           Non-Exempt

 

Terms of Employment: 1.0 FTE, 7.5 Hours per Day - Per Bargaining Agreement / Salary Placement based on 25-26 School Year State Cert Salary Schedule; currently $57,588-$104,901

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

 

Valid Washington State Teacher’s Certificate endorsed in Elementary Curriculum and Music

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
  2. Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.
  3. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with and teach students and staff.
  4. Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.
  5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, IEPs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, governmental regulations and professional journals.
  6. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  7. Evidence of strong content area instructional capabilities at the high school level.
  8. Evidence of providing for students individual learning styles.
  9. Evidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, grading, recording attendance, communicating by e-mail, and implementing these computer programs into daily use in the classroom
  10. Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with an emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles-basic levels to extensions beyond basics.
  11. Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues. 

Experience

  1. Evidence of successful elementary music teaching experience within the last five years is preferred.
  2. Evidence of training or experience in curriculum development.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

 

Essential Duties

  1. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  2. Work proactively with all students through the establishment of clear expectations, the use of negotiation and compromise, and the maintenance of regular parent-staff communication regarding progress and behavior.
  3. Work positively and constructively in a changing school environment, which is focusing on improving student learning.
  4. Participate in the development of curriculum and implementation into instruction.
  5. Participate in workshops and training sessions that support the department’s vision.
  6. Use technology in the teaching and managing of students.
  7. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
  8. Work in a context with multicultural and at-risk students.
  9. Knowledge of, and experience in, motivating reluctant students. Create an atmosphere where cultural diversity is a strength.
  10. Be a “team” player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
  11. Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
  12. Be committed to success for all children.
  13. Cooperate in schedule changes and accommodate other needs for use of facility.
  14. Participate in workshops and training sessions that support building programs.
  15. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  16. Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for individual learning styles (Basic level and extensions beyond basic).
  17. Demonstrated effective communication techniques. 

Other Duties: 

  1. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  2. Creates an effective learning environment through student recruitment, dynamic learning opportunities, and student relationships.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: May include instructional assistants, volunteers, tutors.        

 

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, overhead, document camera, copier, fax, A/V equipment and Musical Instruments.
