Payroll Accountant

Job Responsibilities

• Payroll Processing: Process and submit semi-monthly payroll FOR 400 EMPLOYEES
• Run off-cycle payrolls for bonuses, corrections, missed hours, and terminations.
• Calculations: calculate taxes on payroll corrections, determine fringe benefits to include in gross payroll.
• Payroll Reconciliation: Balance and reconcile payroll bank statements.
• Employee Communication: Field employee questions via calls and emails.
• Coordination with Payroll Processor: Coordinate with payroll processor from payroll company.
• Financial Recording: Record payroll journal entries in the general ledger and, using Excel, allocate payroll costs and taxes across more than 200 profit centers before importing the data into QuickBooks.
  
  

Job Skills

• General understanding of payroll taxes.
• Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks.
• Experience processing payroll.
• Effective communication skills (in-person meetings, phone, email, and document preparation).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to monitor and complete projects on time.
• Attention to detail in all tasks.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions while exercising independent judgment as necessary.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed.
• Ability to research payroll and employee laws for various states as needed.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
  
  

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
• Experience with a Payroll/HRIS system.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and tasks.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and meticulous records.
  
  

Preferred Expereience:

• Multi-state payroll experience.
• Processing payroll for government contractors.
• Experience with Payentry payroll system.
  
  

Other Requirements:

• Physical Requirements: Ability to move and bend freely to access filing cabinets.
• Office Location: This position is on site and based in our east Raleigh office.
  
  

Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check, including:

• Criminal history check.
• Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
• Drug and alcohol test upon job offer and continued random testing thereafter.
  
  

Pay Range

• Dependent on experience
• Pay review after 90 days.
