JOB TITLE: Training Technician
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Mental Health Aide
REPORTS TO: Supervisor
SUMMARY: Facilitates inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the recreation, volunteer, and employment sites of their choosing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports individuals in their program and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently.
2. Assures individuals have opportunities for enrichment, learning and skill development within the program and the community offering opportunities to connect with people outside of the program and access the community around them.
3. Safeguards the confidentiality of individuals and advocates for the advancements of their rights and recognition in the community.
4. Develop community connections that result in supportive relationships as well as enrichment activities.
5. Recognizes social, economic and recreational activities in the community that will meet individual’s needs.
6. Supports individuals in working toward goals set forth in yearly planning meeting. Accurately collecting /measuring data in yearly plan.
7. Supports individual’s progress and well-being.
6. Provide transportation to and from individual’s community integration.
7. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned (safe transportation, recognizes potential emergency situations, and handles such situations)
8. Educates individuals in human rights and self-advocacy.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge and ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities in a positive, motivational, and humane way.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with individuals, staff, business owners, local chamber of commerce, employment resources and volunteer sites.
3. Ability to complete daily documentation sheets, van documentation, progress notes, incident reports, etc.
4. Strong time management skills, patient, and detail oriented.
5. Ability to engage individuals while maintaining professionalism and forming natural supports in the community.
6. Ability to recognize opportunities for teaching moments in natural environments.
7. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with individuals and staff in a polite, respectful and dignified manner
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Alabama driver’s license
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
CPI Training
Must be able to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). The employee must be able to physically demonstrate that he or she is able to perform CPR including an on-the-ground demonstration of CPR proficiency.
