What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Peer Provider position at Highland Health Systems?
SUMMARY: This person is responsible for working with young adults enrolled in our organization’s clinical services. The Youth Peer Provider will work closely with the Care Coordinator and Parent Peer Provider to implement the treatment process with the young adult and their family. The Youth Peer Provider supports adolescents and young adults by sharing their own lived experience of mental health and/or child welfare with young adults to foster hope, build resiliency, and develop self-advocacy skills that will empower them to reach their goals.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide peer support to adolescents and young adults by sharing your own experiences and building trusting relationships.
2. Offer support and guidance to young adults as they receive services and support from our organization.
3. Connect young adults to community supports, natural supports, additional programs.
4. Coordinate outreach and youth engagement efforts in the community.
5. Encourage young adults to identify goals and create action plans in tandem with the young adult’s treatment team to reach them.
6. Foster hope and approach young adults’ skills from a strengths-based perspective.
7. Practice culturally responsive communication and interaction with young adults and their families and/or natural supports.
8. Act as a resource and safe person for young adults to approach with questions, concerns, and accomplishments.
9. Facilitate trainings and groups as scheduled and requested.
10. Attend staff and agency meetings, trainings, and other events as scheduled and approved by supervisor.
11. Complete daily notes, and regular documentation as required by our organization’s guidelines.
12. Transportation maybe required depending on consumer needs.
13. Non- traditional work hours maybe required.
14. Perform other related duties as required.

- Must be calm, flexible, organized and able to handle a fast pace.
- Possess organizational and oral and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work well with staff and participants in a polite, respectful and dignified manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Lived experience in mental health or child welfare services and/or systems
- Must have valid Alabama driver’s license
- Requires regular travel between various locations.
- Requires reliable transportation.
- Ability to drive safely while maintaining an acceptable driving record.
