Job Description
The Manager of Social Work is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality social work services within the Adult Medical, Surgical and Ambulatory Units. The manager collaborates with the Director of Social Work in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary programs and services in the various departments. The Manager represents the Social Work Department on assigned hospital projects.
The Manager of Social Work is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Social Work, the Senior Social Workers and the Department Chairs to assess the need for social work services, develop appropriate social work staffing, efficient operations workflows (including eRecord) along with continuous monitoring and enhancement of social work service delivery. The Manager ensures that social work services are provided within appropriate quality and professional standards, aligned with Highland Hospital’s strategic management plan and in accordance with the policies, procedures and protocols of the Social Work Department and Highland Hospital. The Manager ensures the development and implementation of quality assurance and in-service training programs for the social work staff.
The Manager provides or ensures provision of clinical and administrative supervision to all social work staff. The manager ensures that the ALC census is managed with urgency that include clear plans and next steps towards discharge to a lower level of care. The Manager carries out administrative, teaching and consultation responsibilities within the Social Work Department and the Hospital. The Manager serves as a liaison with health and social service agencies and colleges within in the community.
Salary Range:
$82,495-101,622
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations

Job Requirements
- Education: Must meet the educational requirements to be a NYS licensed MSW from an accredited Social Work graduate program.
- Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience in a health care setting; a proven record in Supervision and Administrative work. 2 years of experience as a Supervisor.
- License/Certification Required: New York State Licensed Social Worker or licensed within 18 months of hire.
- Skills: Leadership skills: Energy and enthusiasm to lead a team of skilled professionals with a sense of urgency to assert, shape, coach, align and guide staff re: implementation of strategic initiatives; observe gaps and work to streamline workflows. Excellent oral and written ability to communicate, Strong Collaborator within our URMC System and with outside stakeholders, demonstrated ability to lead a team. Social Work Skills: Risk screening, assessment, social work interventional skills, care planning, analytical and critical thinking, supervision, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills.
