Highland Industries has an immediate need for an experienced Multicraft Maintenance Technician to work in our Cheraw, SC Industrial Fabrics division. We are looking to hire a detail-oriented and experienced Industrial Mechanic to join the facilities Maintenance team. We operate a safe, clean facility and consider security and safety our top priorities, so we are looking for a professional whose values reflect our own.
As Multicraft Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing and associated machinery and mechanical equipment. This will include installing new equipment, performing regular service and maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting equipment breakdowns. This position reports into the plantwide Maintenance department. To be successful as a Mechanic here, you should be knowledgeable in analyzing and correcting electrical problems and repair/overhaul electrical equipment and controls; dismantle and install machinery and mechanical service equipment, including building repairs. Knowledgeable and experienced with Mechanical and Electrical Components, Gas Fired Equipment, Fire System and Emergency Evacuation Procedures. Boiler start-up and shut-down HVAC, Air Compressors, Chillers; textiles experience is ideal with a knowledge of weaving equipment, Weft-Warp Knitting, Circular Knitting, Finishing Frames, Cutting Press, etc., but not required .
Your skills will be utilized across the facility in any and every area of the plant.
We have one opening at this time. For this position, you would work 40 hours per week average Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required as needed to cover the shifts . The position will be on 3rd shift with work hours from 12am to 8am.
Job Duties Include:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must conduct your work in a safe manner, following all company required safe work rules. Report any accidents near misses and or unsafe conditions immediately. Attend all required safety training.
- Assist in installing new production equipment.
- Must be able to read and interpret Schematics
- Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints.
- Services electronic equipment by checking, testing and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards and similar electronic devices.
- Must be able to Troubleshoot AC/DC Control Systems. PLC experience is a plus.
- Must demonstrate competency in successfully troubleshooting mechanical issues on a variety of industrial machines and equipment around the facility.
- Repair, adjust, dismantle, and assemble plant machinery and equipment.
- Must know how to weld and use torches as required; preferably someone with a 2G Welding certification.
- Perform work of, or assists in, splicing of belts, removing of covers, bases, sheaves, bearing, rollers, casting, etc.
- Servicing and maintaining equipment including motors, conveyor systems, transmission systems, and production-related equipment.
- Inspecting and assessing the functionality of production machines.
- Troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns.
- Adjusting mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
- Fabricating parts for repairs and machine upgrades.
- Conduct routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Communicating with the production team and maintaining a clean work area.
- Clean and assemble equipment parts.
- Secure materials needed and carry them to work site.
- Use lathes, grinders, wrenches, hammers, chisels, pipe wrenches, rulers, files, sledges, cold cutters, back out punches, block and tackle, pinch bars, jacks, flashlights, goggles, etc.
- Use any machinery or equipment in the plant operation, department, or shops.
- May direct work of Mechanical Repairman II or Millwright Helpers.
- Preparing and submitting maintenance reports.
- Position requires a forklift license. You must demonstrate the ability to safely operate a forklift and be capable to acquire an in-house forklift license.
- Must be able to perform duties associated with job, as required, with a high degree of accuracy.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Dept. Manager, Supervisor

Preferred:
- 1-year certificate or degree from an accredited college or Technical school in Industrial Maintenance or similar field preferred.
- Previous Textiles Manufacturing experience and exposures
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must work safely; demonstrate mechanical aptitude; must be knowledgeable and experienced with Tools, Mechanical and Electrical Components, Boiler start-up and shut-down HVAC, Air Compressors, Chillers, Weaving Equipment, Weft Knitting, Circular Knitting, Finishing Frames, Cutting Press, Gas Fired Equipment, Fire System and Emergency Evacuation Procedures.
- Must be able to demonstrate that you can follow written and oral instructions and work autonomously without much oversite.
- Will be required to pass a criminal background check and drug test
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know about and have demonstrated ability to learn the Manufacturing software currently in use at the facility.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Demonstrated ability to speak/communicate effectively.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
