Job Purpose
This employee is responsible for assisting providers and patients in the Behavioral Health Department.
Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma
- Nursing or Medical Assistant Certification preferred
- Medical office training and experience preferred
- Experience in the Behavioral Health field preferred
Experience
- Experience working in a primary care or psychiatric setting, preferably with patients of all ages. Public health or community-based clinic experience preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Certification to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred
- BLS Certified.
Position Responsibilities:
- Evaluates new referrals for treatment appropriateness with current HMC Behavioral Health providers and schedules patients with provider who will be the most beneficial to the patient. If patient needs are not appropriate for HMC, referral should be sent back to the referring provider.
- Assist patients in completing intake paperwork on all new patients to the HMC Behavioral Health program and enters it into the EHR appropriately.
- Assist the HMC Behavioral Health Providers with review/signing the Controlled Substance Medical Management Agreement (CSMMA) with patients receiving controlled substances prescribed.
- Checks in patients for their Behavioral Health appointments; taking and documenting vital signs and obtaining questionnaires for the providers to review as requested.
- Acts as liaison with medical nurses when there are medical concerns regarding Behavioral Health patients.
- Track and follow up with patients who have canceled, rescheduled, or no showed and reporting to the Behavioral Health team.
- Assist in coordinating outside referrals.
- Track behavioral health hospital/facility admissions and ensure timely follow up with HMC.
- Assists with compiling data and other reports for Behavioral Health Program as requested by the Quality Improvement and Risk Manager.
- Perform insurance eligibility before all scheduled Behavioral Health appointments.
Technical/Computer Skills:
- Proficient in electronic medical records, Microsoft Office, and iOS operating systems.
- Skilled in the use of basic medical office equipment, such as blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, thermometer, CLIA waved laboratory urine testing equipment.
- Basic computer skills such as proficient typing, clicking, and viewing a monitor for an extended period of time.
- Skilled in the use of typical office equipment such as a fax machine or copier.
