What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp | Head Counselor position at Highland Mountain Bike Park?
Position Overview:
The head counselor will play a pivotal role in guiding our counselors through their daily responsibilities while ensuring the safety and enjoyment of campers throughout their camp experience. Additionally, you will collaborate with fellow counselors to organize and lead off-mountain recreational programs, including evening activities.
Responsibilities:
- This position requires living with camp at Tilton School
- Assist in delivering pre-camp training to counselors, alongside the Program Manager
- Assist the Program Manager in creating camper groups and counselor assignments prior to the start of a camp session
- Assist in facility set up, inspections and take down before, during and after camp
- Supervise all counselors that are assigned a group of campers living at Tilton School
- This supervision includes daily counselor check-ins, constructive and positive feedback and support during difficult situations
- Supporting counselors and guiding campers through daily schedules and routines
- Work alongside the program manager with managing behavior of campers which may include de-escalation, parent follow-up, documenting incidents and creating behavior plans.
- Plan and support camp activities during evenings and weekends
- Manage inventory of recreational equipment, ensuring proper storage
- Ensure appropriate programming and safe operation of camp, per Highland Camps Policy
- Assist with airport shuttles and non-scheduled camper transportation
- Daytime management and on-call shifts in support of on-mountain activities
Qualifications:
- Attendance at Highland camps staff orientation
- Current first aid and CPR certification
- Prior experience as a counselor, teacher, childcare provider, or related field
- Strong multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor
- Comfortable working as a team player with leadership qualities
- Strict adherence to camp philosophy, standards, and goals
- Engaging and active participation in all camp activities
- At least 4 years of driving experience
- Clean driving history
- Excellent communication skills
