What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Academic Coach position at Highland Prep?
The Academic Coach at Highland Prep is the co-instructional leader, assisting the school principal and assistant principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and campus level operations. The Assistant Principal is accountable for the improvement of teaching and learning and the total educational process so that all students make steady progress in all areas. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum implementation, co-curricular activities, human resource management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling and facilities operations in support of the school mission and vision. At all times, the Academic Coach embodies the values of entrepreneurship, innovation, and courage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates the school within the established School policies and regulations, directives and procedures, and state statutes
- Administers the school by creating a school climate that ensures effective teaching by teachers and learning by students
- Implements a school wide program of student management utilizing consistent rules, positive reinforcement, and appropriate consequences
- Demonstrates, with every decision, the priority placed on high expectations for student achievement and utilizes objective measurement of student academic progress
- Keeps the Principal informed with regard to the schools’ educational program, activities and needs
- Establishes appropriate objectives for the school instructional program within state and school guidelines and assists in the appraisal of student progress on a grade level and school wide basis
- Follows appropriate personnel practices to maintain the best staff while creating positive morale
- Participate in informal and formal classroom visitations and observations; provide recommendations and suggestions to Principal as needed.
- Keeps the community informed about the school; encourages community participation, whenever possible which contributes to the welfare of the school’s students
- Pursues a program of professional growth which enables the Academic Coach to evolve best leadership practices
- Establish, coordinate and maintain communication with community and parent groups; attend and conduct a variety of meetings and events
- Develop correspondence to promote school activities and achievements through multiple media formats, including: print & digital flyers, social media, and web pages.
- Operate a computer and a variety of office equipment.
- Supports the belief that all students, regardless of background, have the ability to be accepted to 4-year colleges and universities, and to gain true college-readiness
- Ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives
- Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data
- Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students’ knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; able to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or higher
Preferred
- State Teacher Certification
- Evidence of significant and consistent personal and professional achievement
- 4 year(s) of experience as a classroom teacher
