What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Trainee / Project Engineer position at Highland Roofing Company?
We're looking for our newest team member who wants to build a career in roofing! As Highland continues to grow, we need someone who will begin by supporting our project management team with submittals and will later gain experience in field superintendent and project management roles.

Main responsibilities include:
- Reviews project contract documents to understand the scope of projects.
- Maintains electronic and/or physical submittal files for each project.
- Conducts roof surveys as required for developing initial roofing submittal packages.
- Attends roof manufacturer training classes/seminars to become familiar with various roofing systems.
- Under the guidance of the Project Manager:
- Identifies product data sheets, manufacturer's specifications, and installation instructions for roofing materials, as well as details on any required accessories such as flashing, adhesives, and sealants.
- Develops/designs metal detail drawings for roofing projects.
- Identifies samples of roofing materials and colors.
- Reviews, processes, initiates, and replies to routine incoming and outgoing correspondence related to submittals.
- Drafts change order documentation.
- Identifies/prices/drafts subcontract and supplier packages for the project.
- Schedules material deliveries and tracking lead times.
- Drafts job-specific site safety plans.
- Prepare project closeout documentation and warranties.
- Under the guidance of the Construction Manager:
- Provides field surveillance of roofing system installation for quality and production rates.
- Coordinates with owner, inspectors, subcontractor and other trades.
- Schedules/attends manufacturer final inspections.

For this entry-level position, we're looking for someone with a degree in construction management or a similar field. Candidates should have general construction experience with strong math and technical skills. Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a focus on learning new skills and responsibilities.

Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
