Authority Summary:
Highland Sewer and Water Authority provides sanitary sewer service to approximately 5,500 customers in Geistown Borough and Richland Township and public water supply service to approximately 10,000 direct customers throughout 17 municipalities in southeastern Cambria County. Additionally, Highland provides "bulk" water to 13 smaller water utilities which distribute and re-sell to their direct customers. As such, Highland's water is used by over 40,000 persons, as well as by significant Commercial and Industrial users. Highland currently employs 28 individuals as management, staff, workforce, and treatment plants workers.
Job Summary:
The Water Treatment Plant Operator performs all functions necessary to ensure water quality and regulatory compliance. General duties include but are not limited to: Operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities and equipment. Regulatory compliance with State of Pennsylvania Drinking Water Regulations and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Chain of Command:
The Water Treatment Plant Operator reports directly to the Plant Manager, Plant Foreman, and/or System Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operation of plant which involves following SOPs for starting and stopping of pumps, quality control/compliance testing, data interpretation, make process control adjustments, diagnose operating problems and perform the necessary corrective action, observation of SCADA system, troubleshoot and repair plant equipment as necessary.
- Perform work not directly related to plant operations such as cleaning and housekeeping, lawn and site maintenance, etc.
- Record Keeping
- Ability to use tablet, PC, or paper for documentation and record keeping.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain records.
- Fax, scan, and e-mail pertinent information.
Working Conditions:
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds both short and long distances.
- Lift and carry heavy (up to 100 pounds or more) equipment, drums and chemicals for distances of 20 feet or more with the assistance of a hand cart or power equipment.
- Exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Face-to-face contact with Authority employees, engineers, customers, and contractor employees.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations.
- Requires standing for long periods of time.
- Works with moderate to loud noise levels.
- The terrain can be rough and may require long walks throughout the jobsite.
- Work area can be dusty and dirty or muddy depending on the weather conditions.
- Required to work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold).
- Need to work well with other to complete projects.
- Works shifts by oneself and typically without direct supervision.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Prior Water Treatment Plant Operator experience preferred, but not required.
- PA DEP Water Plant Operator License preferred, but not required.
Valid PA drivers license is required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
