Veterinary assistant/kennel attendant position
Highland Veterinary Clinic is a full service mixed animal practice located in Arapaho, OK providing care for companion animals, food animals(cattle, sheep, goats, & pigs), and horses. We are located in Western, OK approximately 90 miles west of Oklahoma City. Our business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Saturday schedules are rotated equally between all technicians and receptionists. We also provide after hour services for our clientele, after hours on call services are also rotated equally between all technicians.
The assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing care to boarding animals such as cleaning kennels, feeding, water, taking dogs out to exercise yards, interacting with the pets owners to their wants and needs. Furthermore, following clinician’s direction, preparing and administering medications, monitoring patient’s vital signs, monitoring IV fluids, collecting blood from an intravenous catheter, performing basic lab tests, assisting veterinarians as needed, stocking and cleaning, as well as general animal care. As the assistants grows and learns more there is the opportunity of being responsible for surgery patients, maintain operating room stock and sterilization, maintain sterile and aseptic technique, and be familiar with surgical instrumentation. This job requires candidates to be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs. This position could also include assisting or becoming a receptionist. Receptionists' responsibilities include, but are not limited: answering phones calls, schedule appointments accordingly, checking in clients and patients, checking out clients and patients, and help maintain inventory.
Candidates must be self starters and not afraid to interact with clients and staff members alike. Teamwork and a positive attitude are a must.
