The School Support Specialist is a vital member of our school community, providing flexible and proactive support to ensure a safe, structured, and positive learning environment for all students. This dynamic role supports the smooth operation of the school day by addressing a variety of needs across the campus and assisting in maintaining a calm, respectful school environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Behavioral Support
- Respond promptly to classroom incidents, escorting students to designated spaces when they are being written up.
- Provide short-term supervision and support to students when the Restorative Specialist is unavailable, fostering reflection and positive behavior.
- Serve as a student’s escort as needed, ensuring safety and appropriate transitions.
- Oversee students in In School Suspension as needed.
2. Supervise Cafeteria Periods
- Oversee and manage student behavior during breakfast and all three lunch periods to ensure a safe and respectful environment in the cafeteria and surrounding areas.
3. Hallway and Bathroom Monitoring
- Conduct regular checks of hallways and restrooms every class period to maintain safety, cleanliness, and order.
- Address any issues or concerns in these areas, reporting them to appropriate staff as necessary.
4.Teacher Support
- Provide coverage for teachers requiring brief breaks, ensuring minimal disruption to the classroom.
5. Arrival and Dismissal Support
- Greet students warmly during morning arrival breakfast duty, promoting a positive start to the school day.
- Assist with dismissal procedures, ensuring a safe and organized end to the day for all students.
6. Intervention in Escalated Situations
- Provide immediate support during escalated student altercations, working alongside staff to de-escalate conflicts effectively and restore a safe environment.
- Maintain a calm and supportive demeanor during crises, using strategies that prioritize safety and conflict resolution.
7. General Campus Presence
- Serve as a visible, approachable presence throughout the school day to support students, staff, and administration.
- Build positive relationships with students and act as a resource for addressing minor conflicts or concerns.
8. Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the school’s operations and maintain a positive learning environment.
