Title: Operations Director
Reports To: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt
Salary Range: $47,000-57,000

Role Summary
The Operations Director is responsible for the leadership and management of all of the organization’s operations, communications and outreach. This is a site-based role and requires evening and weekend work.
Responsibilities
General Operational Oversight:
● Develops, facilitates and manages workflow systems and processes
● Directs marketing, communication and outreach efforts
● Works with the Executive Director to facilitate staff meetings and lead staff in daily operations
● Works with the Facilities Director to manage logistics, and safety in support of all programs, events, initiatives and visitation activities
Human Resources:
● Ensure practices of staff and volunteers are in line with policy
● Manage record keeping efforts associated with staff and volunteers
Financial Management:
● Manages data and develops financial trend and dashboard reports
● Works with the Executive Director to ensure organizational operations within a budget
Earned Income, Fundraising and Development:
● Overseas earned income operations
● Manages the operations of fundraising events and efforts
● Works with the Executive Director in support of all development efforts
Staff Oversight:
● Leads, supervises and manages all operations staff
Qualifications
A successful Operations Director possesses the knowledge, abilities, skills and characteristics associated with nonprofit leadership and management. These qualifications of the OD will be derived from a blend of education and experience. These include a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in operations or logistics coordination. Desired qualifications include advanced training(s) in a related field(s), 2 or more years of experience in natural history education and/or nonprofit management, and experience supervision staff.
General Operational Oversight:
● Knowledge of workflow systems and processes, especially as related to nonprofits
● Strong management skills
● Organizational skills, especially in managing and scheduling and living/breathing load of events, programs, and initiatives
● Ability to make and communicate decisions effectively
● A growth mindset focused on deepening the impact of all operations and initiatives and the ability to bring out the same in others
Human Resources:
● Knowledge and skills associated with best practices in human resources specific to staff and volunteers
● Ability to maintain accurate records and manage databases
Financial Management:
● Knowledge and skills associated with budgeting and operating within one, and exercising cost saving measures
● Ability to create and interpret financial reports and trends
Earned Income, Fundraising and Development:
● Knowledge of the nonprofit funding sources and practices in developing resources
● Ability to coordinate events and direct others in the same
● High ethical standards of conduct, including trustworthiness and ability to maintain confidential information
Staff Oversight:
● Ability to lead a diverse team of full-time and part-time staff
● Strong communication skills, including skills specific to conflict resolution
● Character that reflects the values and mission of the organization and the skills to cultivate these values in others - including a passion for and experience related to natural history
