General Statement of Duties: Responsible for teaching swim lessons to students of all ages and abilities.
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Swim Lesson Coordinator and Aquatic Program Specialist.
Supervision Exercised: None.
JOB DESCRIPTION

- Maintains Starfish Aquatics Institute standards in teaching swim lessons in conjunction with HRCA guidelines.
- Teaches proper swimming strokes and techniques at the appropriate level.
- Provides for the safety of students, always following all policies and procedures.
- Works with students to improve their swimming ability and water skills in a constructive and enjoyable manner.
- Assesses students abilities, accurately and fairly, when determining further progression of instruction.
- Maintains communication with parents regarding a childs progress or areas of concern.
- Fills out all required paperwork, in a timely manner, for each class, including individual participant progress reports.
- Cooperates with other aquatic staff members in coordinating pool space, program set-ups and equipment usage.
- Participates in the mission of the organization of Enhancing property values and creating quality of life through recreation, community events, and leadership.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Standards:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy aquatic environment where noise and interruptions prevail. Ability to safely extricate individuals of varying weight from a pool, with or without assistance, at any given time. Work will also be performed in different types of conditions including, but not limited to, heat, sun, humidity, snow, rain and wind. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Must be able to stand/ walk/ rove for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift. Manual dexterity is needed to perform the functions of this position. The ability to talk and hear through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/ remove a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Starfish Aquatics swim lesson program standards. Thorough understanding of all pool rules and regulations governing the Aquatics Department. Ability to communicate with patrons and staff of all ages in a polite and courteous manner. Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a first responder. Must possess or obtain a swim instructor certification through Starfish Aquatics Institute.
Must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Education:
Prefer high school graduate or current enrollment in high school.
Experience:
Prior swimming instruction experience desired.
