What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry Advising - Part Time, Hourly position at Highline College (WA)?
The Entry Advising Hourly - Part-time provides support to the core functions of the Entry Advising department and Welcome Center, including but not limited to: staffing the welcome desk, greeting new and returning students, supporting new student orientation, staffing the campus phone line and providing referrals and navigation support to prospective students seeking to enroll at Highline College.
This is an hourly position, averaging 16 hours per week with availability to work within the department’s hours of operation. Specific schedule will be determined at time of hire.
This position is a temporary part-time hourly position that is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Highline College in another temporary part-time hourly position.Reporting to the Director of Entry Advising, this position will:
- Staff the Welcome Center front desk, greet new, prospective and returning students;
- Assist students in completing admissions application, accounts activation and connecting to Highline technology resources (Canvas, ctcLink, Highline email);
- Connect and provide overview for a variety of funding resources and support;
- Connect with relevant services and next steps in enrollment process;
- Inform students of various placement options and assist in determining means of assessment that matches student skills, experience, and academic pathway;
- Explain college pathways in English and math for professional technical programs, transfer degrees, certificates, and ELCAP courses;
- Support the planning and execution of quarterly student orientation sessions;
- Support students in identifying and navigating appropriate campus support services;
- Provide student-centered customer service in person on campus, virtually via Zoom, electronically via email and by phone, responding to inquiries in a timely manner;
- Assist Director with tracking and maintain service usage and data;
- Maintain confidentiality of student records as outlined by FERPA and Highline College policies and procedures;
- Maintain current knowledge of campus policies and procedures to facilitate effective linkages to these services.
- Effectively utilize interpersonal skills to interact and build rapport with students and the public;
- Navigate students successfully through pre-enrollment and problem solve issues;
- Effectively communicate, both written and verbally;
- Effectively work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and commit to fostering an equitable and inclusive environment;
- Provide excellent customer service in an effective and timely manner;
- Initiate and maintain positive working relationships with students and colleagues;
- Work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
- Utilize technology including Microsoft Office applications, Google applications, student information systems, learning management, systems, and internet browsers for research, communications and data tracking;
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills with an ability to manage timelines and details.
- High school diploma or GED; AND
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university;
- Experience working in or attending a community college;
- Experience advising or supporting students;
- Ability to speak a language(s) in addition to English.
